Sight Seeing Around Cameron Highlands

Most visitors to Cameron Highlands, I was told, typically spend a night there but we decided to take things easy and leisurely and were there for 3 days 2 nights.

On our first day, we arrived Cameron Highlands quite early at 11.20am after starting our trip at 9.26am (I'm exact, LOL) from Sungai Koyan. A stop at Habu for a refreshing snack of rock melon we continued our journey with a stop at Tanah Rata, checking out the stalls selling souvenir items like strawberry shaped pillows, fridge magnets, keychains, towels and t-shirts. We wandered around the small town and stopped for a light lunch at Starbucks. Plenty of eateries here, from Chinese, Malay, Western and the always trusty Mamak restaurants.

We saw plenty of tour operators there, for visitors who require the help of a guide. There's even Japanese speaking guide available. (Kak Hani, not going to Cameron Highlands?)

The post office at Tanah Rata

Transportation of choice - beat up land rovers to transport produce around. Made me think of my dad' trusty old Jimny that he used whenever he went to Ulu Sungai or Betau Valley (those are Orang Asli settlements)

A neighbourhood school - S K Convent

Our lunch

On the way from Habu to Tanah Rata, we stopped at a tea plantation called Bharat Tea Plantation because everyone seemed to be stopping there (and because the Boh Tea Plantation is closed on Monday) and also because I needed to pee badly (LOL). However, the most fun tea plantation tour was at the Sungei Palas tea plantation which I'm going to write another post soon.

After checking-in at Equatorial Hotel, we strolled to the nearby Kea Farm market. The road from Tanah Rata to Kea Farm was jammed because of slow moving traffic and because of visitors trying to park their cars at the roadside. Patience is needed when you are driving up to Cameron Highlands during peak season.

We need not travel far from the Hotel because everything seems to be near it. There were strawberry farms, vegetables farms, the market area selling pre-packed fresh produce, flowers and food stalls all in walking distance from our Hotel.

We didn't buy any fresh produce at Kea Farm, because we took both the Equatorial GM's and Front Office Manager's advise to go to the farms. We were also recommended to visit the Sungei Palas tea plantation by the very friendly, very nice F&B Manager. He even got us a map to help us navigate our way around.

We did buy some souvenir magnets, pillows, lollipops at Kea Farm though.

Next up - Steamboat buffet dinner at Golden Phoenix Restaurant, Equatorial and our visit to the Sungei Palas Tea Plantation, picking fresh strawberries and vegetables.

  2. Looks like staying at Equatorial is a good idea as it's within walking distance to all the places you wanted to go.

Wow! Lunch at Starbucks! Were the price there more expensive than the Starbucks at flat land like KL? : )

  3. @ECL,
Go holiday also want to stop at Starbuck. Terrible, right? :D

    @foong,
not too sure. Maybe a little bit expensive? Have to check my receipts lah. XD

Staying at EQ was quite convenient for jalan-jalan what with Mount Brinchang also quite nearby, but for makan, still have to travel to Brinchang/Tanah Rata unless want to eat at the Hotel.

  4. The weather must have been quite cool over there. Was it ok to wear thin for the occasion?

  5. @Jim,
Nightime was sure cold, but daytime, the weather is just nice and cooling. Perfectly OK to walk about in short sleeved shirt & shorts, if you want to. Of course, this dependes on your tolerance towards cold lah. :D
