Heavy Rain Worries Me

Just look at the water level of that river!

When its pouring heavily outside, I get worried. Thank goodness I'm not affected by traffic jam or flash flood caused by the rain much because my father-in-law's house is just a walking distance to my office but come rain, Zaini would probably be home later because the LRT train do have the tendency to stall on rainy days. Did you noticed that?

When I pass this river, I couldn't help notice of all the debris and trash floating in it. Why do some people still throw their trash in the river without nary a thought of the consequences afterwards?

  1. Looks scary the river swelling up like that after a heavy downpour. Do you walk to work or something?

  3. Gosh... it's pathetic to see how polluted our rivers in M'sia are!>_<

  4. @Alice,
I agree. We Malaysians have no one but ourselves to blame on the sorry state of our rivers with many of us apathetic about its state. :(

  8. Never a good thing when a river is rising like that. We have just had some major flooding in both Queensland and Victoria in Australia and the destruction was unbelievable!!

  9. oh yeah, it does rain really heavily these few days in the late afternoon right?? bright and shiny in the afternoon and then suddenly heavy rain to follow..

  10. i take LRT to work, so basically jam caused by rain will not affect me.. but then i think LRT is still not affected by the rain right?? or did you mean the KTM?? :p

  12. @Japan Australia,
Yes, the flooding in Australia were really bad. Many of us in Malaysia have family members and friends residing there and we were equally worried when the news came out.

We had some bad flood in our country too this year. :(

  13. @SK,
LRT still got affected time and time again when it's raining heavily but they'll just say it'sdue to technical reason.

KTM of course, stalled for no apparent reason most of the time. If you take the LRT from Bangsar I guess it wasn't so bad but imagine the crush at KLCC station. Ugh! I'm so lucky I don't need to face that again! o.O

So true about the weather! Bright and early one minute then thunder and lightning the next!

  14. Such alarming view is quite common here, especially the rivers in our big cities.
The problem is, the government never takes such matter (managing trash and maintaining rivers or canals) seriously, and when flood does happen, they easily blame it on the rain fall.

  15. @Con Artist Trickster,
For me, everyone should play a role and not just the government. Rivers don't get dirty and clogged by itself. However, I do agree that more pro-active action should be done to cease all the flooding that is happening.

  16. Malaysians. What to do? They think there are people to pick up their trash.. Oh wait, I'm Malaysian too. Hmm, my mom is Singaporean so I'm sort of half-Malaysian, can ah? HAHA!!

Thing is, it's actually how we teach our children. I'm in my 20's and I still feel guilty if I want to throw a piece of paper on the road. I'd rather put sweet wrapper in my pocket and find a rubbish bin to throw it later. Same goes with my brothers. So I guess it's just how we teach our young and from when should we nurture their mentality.

  17. I am just wondering, why would the rain affect the LRT??

  18. Nowadays I very scared of flash flood. The other day, I was trapped in a flash flood in PJ. The car in front of me did not dare to move forward because the water was quite high, and I was wondering what I needed to do! Then she decided to drove forward and I just followed suit making sure I put on low gear and did not step on the clutch! It would be horrible if the car engine died in a flood!

  19. @Bella,
We have to remind ourselves and to teach our children not to litter. I so hate it when seeing kids and adults alike toss a wrapper without any guilt. I also hate seeing smokers tossing their ciggies butts everywhere. They pollute the air and make a mess too! :(

  20. @foong,
Car dead in a flood isn't a good thing!

  21. I never used to worry about heavy rains. In fact I love rainy days. However, after what happened during the Ondoy typhoon here in the Philippines, I can't help but be anxious now.
