Can't Be Bothered

You arrived at the cashier counter. Look at the screen for the items that the cashier scanned. You saw an item with a price higher that what was shown on the store aisle. Have you ever experienced this? What reaction did you usually get from the cashier?

It irked me when some of them just brush it off with "ala kak, itu barang lain tu kak" trans : that must have been for a different item. No effort on checking the price or even apologise afterwards when we insisted on her checking on the price. Usually, all that was aked was " so, do you want the item or not"?

Plus I hate how some hypermarts now only show the deduction of promotional items at the end of the receipt. So when the item was scanned it showed the full price and the deduction was made afterwards. You really have to have good mental arithmetic skill or go over the receipt after paying for it, and if there's a dispute; bring it over to Customer Service. So mah fan!

And oh! By the way, I do make a point of looking at the screen for every s.i.n.g.l.e item scanned. Just can't trust retailers updating their pricing list nowadays. :(

  3. I make a huge fuss if the price scanned is totally off the displayed price but you're right, sometimes you just can't tell until they issue the receipt and by that time I'm too lazy to yell at them.

    1. Same here. So have to scan the receipt carefully before being too far from the place. But the inconvenience of asking back the cashier to check the price when there is a long queue is such a hassle.

    1. I do it too.

Some cashiers do show annoyed face though if I do that.

Zaini always mentions this and I agree - if in Japan, the cashiers would have apologise for the blunder (& we would apologise for the trouble). Here, we get cold sulky look. That is what I cannot stand.

But I hate the hassle of it.

  7. You know what? I think the hypermarkets did this on purpose. Most customers would not be bothered to check the price properly. So the hypermarkets conned lots of people this way!

    1. I somehow suspect so.

For me, Guardian is the biggest culprit. Have had to "argue" with the cashiers there about few wrong priced item which they insisted weren't wrong. What to do?

      Look for manager.

But here's the thing - after that? cannot apologise for arguing with customer? :(

  8. Normally if the price is higher than what was listed at the aisle, I will complain but if they are too lazy to do anything about it, I will tell them I do not want that item anymore.

  18. Whenever I go the grocery, I always bring my pocket calculator. As my cart fills up, so was the running total of what I'm picking up. Mind you, even the discount was already deducted. When I pay higher than my total, I demand talking to a supervisor, so I always make sure my computation is 100% accurate. I shop longer than what normally it takes but its ok because I dont want to be cheated. More often than not, my computation is right, and theirs is wrong. Because of this, I enjoy some perks whenever I shop because the grocery manager already knows me. lol

  20. haha.. so mah fan, I like that.

The other day I had a cashier asking me whether I wanted the item (because she couldn't scan it and had to buzz someone to check out the code) and if I did, she said I'll have to "tunggu lama" for someone to check out the code. I was appalled that she said that and with a tone of discouragement that Chinese would term "pouring rice away for the employer".

It turned out, her colleague was back in seconds with the code!

    1. A lot of cashiers pull a face when there is a price discrepancy and we brought it up to them. Not a good attitude.

If I see the store supervisor somewhere there, I'd go and tell the supervisor to train their satff properly. It's not a good attitude.
