If We Were In Japan, Mommy...

You should hear Raimie muttering that over and over while we were queuing for tickets (tokens, actually) at the hot, stuffy and packed Masjid Jamek LRT station yesterday evening.

If we were in Japan, Mommy
"We wouldn't need to queue so long"
"The queue won't be so slow"
"That machine was out-of-order. It wouldn't be in Japan"
"It won't be so hot"
yada yada yada
and I kept having to shush him. You'd think my Son had lived for years in Japan, not a mere two-weeks vacation there each year, the way he compared our LRT with the train stations in Tokyo! That boy! Ahahaha... Malu only. *paiseh*

Anyways... we were in Masjid Jamek and used the public transportation because Mommy needed to go to Dataran Merdeka to collect her (and Raimie's too) race kit yesterday, after work.
Raimie, in front of the kids' dash counter.
Virtually no queue there yesterday evening so we were spared from long queues or waiting ages for our stuff.

We were done by 7pm and Daddy was still busy at work so Daddy told us to come over to KLCC and have dinner there. Dinner was at Miss Kwan. Miss Kwan ka, Madam Kwan ka... our choice will be Nasi Bojari! The very sour prawns, the soft beef rendang and the crispy, must try fried chicken. Yummy!!! Raimie had Chicken Rice and he managed to clean up everything on his plate. Good boy. ^^

Then, some browsing time at Kinokuniya. A place where Daddy would spend a lot of his lunch hour, browsing Japanese travel magazine.
Isetan food mart was next but what did we get there? This! Because it's super cheap. This 1.2kg kimchi pack is sold at RM38.50 at other supermarkets, but this (old stock) tub is only RM27.90 at Isetan. My family can finish this tub in less than a month. Now, better replenish my stock of gochujang and doenjang too.
In Brickfields. One of the temples there. We took the LRT back from KLCC to Sentral (which is in Brickfields, if you don't know. ^^) before heading home.
Almost ready for tomorrow!

  1. Tokyo Marathon 2013 will open for registration (lottery picking to confirm the place later) in August. You have plan to have a vacation plus a Marathon?

I am thinking of putting in one oversea Marathon next year, still undecided between HK, Tokyo or Gold Coast... Wife is interested to go HK or Tokyo, but both marathons are happen in Feb 2013, that is too close to CNY.

How much a family will spend for a week in Japan (Tokyo area + Disneyland may be)?

    1. I will definitely do a Japan marathon, one day! If it's not Tokyo, there are others, smaller scale ones at places that I'd love to return to for it. ^^

A week in Japan for us would cost :
      7 days hotel : 70,000yen - 80,000yen (business hotel for us)
Daily train rides : 5,000 - 7,000yen per pax for the week (excl airport transfer) this however, is the max amount allocated. We'd spent less as we walked... A LOT ^^
Meals : 500yen - 2,000yen per meal. Ramen/curry rice place can be cheap. As do bento bought at supermarket/konbini. Our dinners usually is below 1,000yen per pax per dinner.
Airport transfer : if you are taking Air Asia, and coming in to Haneda, then it's definitely cheaper than coming into Narita. A train ride from HND to Tokyo cost about 600yen for per way for adult. You might choose the airport limo to avoid the hassle but it cost more.
Disneyland : 4,000yen ono (child) - 6000yen (adults). Totally worth the yen. ^^

Plus be prepared to spend lots on cute souvenirs! LOL

    2. Thanks for the very detailed costing.
Look like it will cost me RM15~20k for the family trip. Need to start saving money now :P

    3. It cost us RM12K for 2A 1C for a two weeks holiday all around Japan... ^^

    4. Do note that those train rides I stated is for 7 days, not 1 day x 5,000yen. That would be expensive! ^^

    5. You forgot the chocolate payments for your friendly local foreign guide! :D

    6. ahahaha... yes, that I did forget. Soory guide.

But chocolate currency fluctuates greatly between that coin-shape chocs, to cadbury to Patchi to Godiva. Which currency do you take, guide? ^^

    8. Yup, I heard about the 7 days Japan Railway pass too. Let see if I can plan out something. Thanks for the info.

    9. Use the JR Pass if you are traveling out of Tokyo i.e. to Osaka/Kyoto etc. Otherwise, it might be a waste.

Also there might be local passes, Kanto Pass, JR East, etc that may have promo on the dates you are traveling.

    1. Food from Ms Kwan comes from Mdm Kwan kitchen. Same food, diff pricing. Anak cheaper than the Mommy outlet. Less classy too. Plus it's a self service place so you don;t have to pay 10% svc tax at the "gadis" outlet. ;p

  6. I can sort of understand why Raimie kept comparing Japan with M'sia. I was only 1 week in Korea, I did the same thing like your boy. I kept talking about how good people country was to my husband. I even told him that I want to migrate when I retire. Why me like that ah?

    2) Japan comparisons, Kinokuniya, Isetan ... JapanJapanJapan! :D

    3) Is it my imagination or is Raimie resembling his dad more and more?

    3. Wheee Sky Treee!

東京スカイツリー グルメ散歩, Tokyo Sky Tree Gourmet Walk. It just took me about 11 minutes, as per usual, to realize that グルメ gu-ru-me is gourmet. I'm NOT a katakana fan!

Incidentally, I see everybody's now writing Skytree one word. Hmm.

I didn't go jaunting yesterday. I was working. Tough life, lah!

You're probably running as I write this. Go, Lina, go!

We walked using the elevated road to Brickfields instead of using the bus area. Less polluted.

    1. Yeah well...

It's sad and I guess what we can do apart from complaining is try to make a change ourselves. It may not amount to much, but at least we are teaching our children different values to emulate. Right?
