We Do Eat Malay Food Too!

Lest you think that we only scarf Japanese and Korean food (with the occassional "mat salleh" fares), I'd have you know that we love our own food too! I'm equally fond of sambal belacan and sambal tempoyak as I am fond of kimchi!

Last week, we took Raimie to Belanga at Gardens Mall because he wanted to eat Roti Jala. As luck would have it, they ran out of roti jala so we ordered the next best thing for son.
Pulut kuning (tumeric glutinous rice), accompanied with chicken curry. Pulut kuning is often used by Malay as a way to give thanks and serve it to our neighbours/colleagues. For instance, if Raimie manages to complete his Al-Quran reading (the whole Al-Quran), I will happily give out nasi kunyit to the "surau" in our area to be shared amongst the "jemaah" there and to my friends & colleagues too. My Mom made a cake out of pulut kuning and distributed it to my Ustaz & Ustazah at my Islamic school (which was called Darul Quran) when I excelled in my religious studies... (hard to believe, eh?) It is used as a hantaran (wedding gift) in Malay wedding too.

And... we get to enjoy them if a Chinese friend is celebrating their child's full moon too! ^^
 Daddy had Nasi Kerabu.
Mommy had Laksam.

Both of us hailed from the East Coast (although Daddy is very much a Bangsar boy - his words, not mine) so of course we love East Coast food! When I was small, I had laksam for breakfast every weekend! If we are at Daddy's hometown in Marang, Nasi Dagang will be our breakfast. Gosh... it's been awhile since I cooked Nasi Dagang. Must muster energy (and "rajin"ness and cook them soon)

Oh wait! Fasting month is beckoning. Time to indulge on all the food we miss, during fasting month and buy them from Pasar Ramadhan! Happy....

(and I wonder why I don't lose weight fasting for a month! kekeke)

    1. It's perfectly normal actually because traditionally the meal is served for hardworking fishermen.

Also, it' not that much different from the much heavier (for me, at least) nasi lemak. And the curry - well, we eat curry/dhall with roti canai. Not much different mah... ;p
