Nature Walk, City Style

One : we went out for a walk to a park. Kinda. A 'forest" kinda park. We were surrounded by greenery but it's just minutes away from the capital administrative centre and minutes away from housing areas.

Two : we walked on roads. Perfectly maintained roads.

A nice place to "introduce" outdoors, that is not an obviously landscaped parks; to someone and its located in Putrajaya.

The start of our walk was on this sparsely shaded road. We saw no other visitors. The only people there were the gardeners.

Then we got on a more shaded part of the park. There's even trail road for those who choose to do trails.

We took our time, stopping and looking at interesting stuff. Allowed Son to play around. He kinda went whiny after a few kms and wanted to stop, but we managed to cajole him to continue by distracting him.
Told him how I used to play "shop" when I was small with these plant. As coins. He looked at me with disbelief. He said, "why? It has no value". Well yeah, we don't use printed play money to play way back when. We use whatever is around us to play.
Showed him the "kankong" (water spinach) plant too. "But kankong is long, Daddy" he said. So we asked him to pull the plant to show him how long it is. "Pick them up", said Daddy. "You can put in your maggi mee", teased Daddy. LOL
 Saw an "ulat gonggok" (milipede)
and Mommy encouraged him to poke at it to see its reaction. Mommy used to love playing with the ulat gonggok. The feel of those tiny feet walking is nice. :P
As it rained earlier, saw mushrooms sprouting up all over.
We stumbled upon a jackfruit tree too! Shall we return in two weeks' time to see how the jackfruits are faring? hehehe

At one part of the park, the trees were all marked and named. In Malay. Sorry, no English.

Tongkat Ali, anyone?

Laughed at some of the trees name like this "Minyak Berok" which translates as monkey oil. hehehe
When he's happy and excited to continue, he's charming like this.

At times, he'd get grumpy and whiny and argumentative. Pretty normal. The boy walked with us, on this undulating route filled with hilly sections for 8.53km. He walked for 2hours 20minutes with us. ^^

So Daddy provided some comic relief and amusement
 "He's a Kappa!", laughs Son.
Then, Daddy showed him how to shoot with the "daun lalang" (coarse weed?). Let's battle who can shoot furthest! :)

We sure had fun.

Maybe we can do this again soon. But Mommy and Daddy plan to go without Raimie for the next trip as we plan to cover more areas. Raimie would not be happy walking/jogging for more than 3 hours! And we are not that bad of a slave-driver to make him do that!

Anyways, school holidays officially started.

HAVE FUN!

  1. What a lovely family outing to explore the almost virgin jungles. It was so healthy and yet so fun to discover Minyak Berok. There must be some sap from that tree for the beroks!

  10. this looks like a nice place to walk and with proper road it's actually easier, probably that 2 hours and 20 minutes won't be felt as there are so many interesting things to see and hence distract attention on the tired legs..

    1. The kangkung was just one, in between those weeds. Raimie held the kangkung in the photo.

Not many were growing at the spot but we saw a few so we decided to show it to Raimie.
