Rainy Day, Comfort Food

One of my all-time favourite and hubby does it really well : beef stew.

I always crave for soups (sourish ones) when it's cold or when am not feeling well. ^^
Nothing much to look at, but I tell you, this is delicious! And super easy to cook.

Essentially, prepare all the ingredients and chuck them in, in the rice cooker; putting it on slow-cooker mode and let it simmer. Get them ready at 4pm and by 6pm, we had the whole house filled with yummy smell.

Our recipe isn't complicated and it's basically a miser recipe because we usually just buy meat cubes (don't really care of what cut - doesn't really matter if its sirloin, short loin, plank, chuck or whatever nonsense that we never really understand anyway) sold at TMC on discount. Yes, on discount.

Our ingredients would be :
Cubed meat (of any cut)
Celery
Carrots
Potatoes
Tomatoes (or tomato paste)
Plain yoghurt (added before serving)
Broccoli
Salt and pepper to taste

Some water and chuck everything in rice cooker (or slow cooker) and leave it to simmer. Easy, right?

I've been thinking about having this for a bit now... When are eating stew again, hubby? ^^

For my part, I haven't been cooking this in ages either :
My not-so good looking jigae.

My jigae is cooked not according to recipe, I just chuck what I want in it. After all, a jigae is a Korean dish similar to a Western stew.

My kimchii jigae basically would consist of :
Kimchii of course
Gochujang (Korean Chilli paste)
Doenjang (Korean soy bean paste)
Gochugaru (Korean Chilli flakes) or any chilli flakes will do
Tofu
Light soy sauce
Salt, sugar (I use honey)
A little bit of meat (beef or chicken or whatever)
Mushrooms (shitaake, enoki or whatever)
A whole lot garlic
White onion

Stir-fry kimchii
Set water to boil, add gochujang; doenjang, soy sauce then add mushrooms, meat... boil for a bit and adjust soup to taste. Then, just before putting off the stove, add tofu slices. Serve hot.

OK this is not a proper recipe. Like I said, I just throw stuff in and adjust to what I like. LOL Sometimes, I even put tomatoes in there. ;-)

  16. You know what? I just copied your recipe cos mine is missing so many things. My Korean housemates being bachelors all cooked so differently and not the same as restaurants. I knew something missing.
