The Regional And Seasonal Specialty Kit-Kat In Japan

SK had covered and blogged about the special kit-kats in Japan beforehand.

I'm posting mine as my own observation of my own experience finding them.

The Kit-Kats, with special ones from each different regions is I guess, boosted by Japanese culture of gift giving. If you visit different towns or cities, you'd notice that the area will have special regional omiyage that you can buy for family/relatives/friends/co-workers after your trip, be it a holiday or a working trip. They are offered seasonally too.

I read somewhere that Kit-Kat is especially successful because of the similarity between the brand name with "kitto katsu" or "you'll surely win". Now that's a nice gift with equally desirable meaning to pass around, right?

We didn't really go all out finding the special Kit-Kat or went on a Kit-Kat boutique expedition which is in Ikebukuro as we only traveled to a few towns during our last vacation.

But here are some that we saw and/or bought :
 Sakura Green Tea Kit-Kat.
Mount Fuji Kit-Kat from where else? Fujisan of course! ^^
  Shishu Apple and Wasabi Kit-Kat.
New Year Kit-Kat from Japan Post.
 D51498 Steam Locomotive Kit-Kat.
 Azuki/Red Bean Sandwich Kit-Kat.
We bought a few of those limited editions but we "borong"ed the rather generic Green Tea and the Black (Otona no amasa) Kit-Kat.
We didn't limit our chocolates hunting to only Kit-Kats, I have you know. ^^
Anyway, if you're looking for a bargain in Tokyo, do head to Takeya near Okachimachi station for some bargain chocolates and snacks perfect to be bought in bulk for all your extended family and friends. If you buy enough, you can get a tax refund from this shop! People do buy by the basket load here.

    1. The D51498 uses the Otona no amasa variety. ;)

The New Year Kit-Kat is only sold at post offices. We went to both the Central post office and Shinjuku branch to buy some commemorative stamps and ended up hoarding a number of the kit-kat too. LOL
