Kuala Lumpur, By Cycle
Do you know that there is an initiative by Kuala Lumpur City Hall, offering tourists who want to explore the beauty and attractions of Kuala Lumpur on bicycle?
We certainly would not have been any wiser, if not for the fact that we stumbled upon these signs by chance when we were spending time on our foot around the touristy area : Dataran Merdeka and Lake Garden. Well, Zaini did the stumbling. I was too busy huffing and puffing and feeling faint to notice much while I was running! LOL
Anyways, these photos were take in February. Incidentally, the launch of the KL By Cycle was on Feb 25th. Our photos were taken on Feb 26th.
Dunno why I never got around making a post about it before. But here goes :
Now, six months after the launch; I wonder whether the initiative still exists? Everyone cycling OK?
This also reminds me that it's been ages since I run around the vicinity.
The last one was a madcap LSD I did before Malaysia Women Marathon, when Zaini accompanied me to run around Lake Garden and Dataran Merdeka on a work day. Wednesday, to be exact. We arrived Dataran Merdeka at 10.30am and the place was as usual, swarmed by tourists.
Kinda miss doing this...

You looked so cool in that green outfit!
ReplyDeleteI was drenched in sweat! LOL
DeleteI had already ran for 2 hours and needed to add another at that time. ;)
That was your most EPIC LSD lah Sis... Never run KL for my LSD before... I must run there to get the vibe of SCKLM come this Sept...
ReplyDeleteSo nice if we can cover the whole KL on bicycle, yes? Environmental friendly but it would be buckets of sweats considered the humidity and mid day heat... @_@
I actually don't trust the cycling gimmick.
DeleteHave you seen the track? Nak jalan pun ngam-ngam jer, is it safe to cycle on those teeny-weeny pavement plus maneuvering the traffic. Errr... I'll pass. Seriously.
This is not the epic one. The EPIC one was the one I covered my carpark for 3 hours, not caring what the neighbours think of me! LOL
Eh i didn't know this until I read your blog. I think this is a good initiatives for tourism but our government should really make sure the infra is well set up, it's not that hard... just send some guy over to Singapore, take some photos and build the same thing here in Malaysia! :D
ReplyDeleteThe problem with any initiatives is the follow up. That's where we have a problem. Maintaining it. :(
Deleteyeah, i think this initiatives was back then in the beginning of the year while our former "minister of travelling" was still there to promote.. but heard negative feedback from tourist that although there is such an initiative, KL is yet not ready a cycling friendly city.. a lot of places still do not have dedicated cycling path, roadsigns are still not confusing, and most importantly the awareness of the public towards cycling is still very low.. that's why no news for now and growing mushroom and cobweb, so is the whole thing still running or abandoned just like that (the usual Malaysian way of doing things)..
ReplyDeleteSeeing the route, I have to say it is not properly implemented. They just smack some signs on existing pavements (some are way too narrow) and told the public we have a cycling route.
DeleteWe do not even have a decent walking pavement! :(
Hope they dont hangat hangat tahi ayam...a few mths later all forgoten
DeleteThis is also a rather slap-dash effort.
DeleteBut cycling effort in Putrajaya is good and popular. Come here and cycle around with rented bikes, Meow. :-)
anyway, nice photos and nice logo on the second day of the launch, hahaha!! somemore got your blog URL watermark this time, fuyoh!!
ReplyDeleteAiyoh, sudah made the effort to collage the photos, add extra effort to watermark it lor... hehehe
Deletelooking at your photos, i realized how long i have not been to these places (not including passing by in transport).. and i just read from paper that we actually have a "I ♡ KL" thing somewhere in the National Art Gallery.. i didn't know that, and i think one day i should go there to take photo, it's so "landmark" right?? yet most of us are ignorant and never been there..
ReplyDeleteI got put photo about that "I ♡ KL" last year. Remember? ^^
DeleteI love all your shots! Very nice and sharp! It's a good activity and I would cycling too!
ReplyDeleteTaken with a dinky Samsung smartphone ;)
DeleteI don't know how to cycle so I would still go sightseeing on foot. :)
ReplyDeleteI can but I still prefer my two feet too! LOL
DeleteActually I didn't know that I would cycle too, all because of Jin Jin buying me a bicycle. Cycling now has become my third activity other than gym and swimming.

ReplyDeleteThat's good Yannie.
DeleteThis third activity allows you to bond more with Jin Jin too. :)
Wah! This is indeed a great idea by KL City Hall. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteIt's indeed a good idea but I personally think the implementation wasn't perfect. There was no upgrade of infrastructure for this.
DeletePenang has done with bike lanes but sad to say, vehicles are still allowed to drive on the bike lane and some even used the space as parking!
People's mindset need to change. :(
Any zebra paths? If yes, can we gallop along the pavement, scattering pedestrians, à la Tokyo mamacharis?
ReplyDeleteOr should that be "if no"? Gaaa. Too early in the morning. No coffee yet. Kbye, Lina, have a happy Sunday! :D
DeleteIt's almost always "if no" here.
DeleteWe brave the traffic and risk being run over by them. We risk being run over by them even on specified bike/pedestrian lane anyway. Fun, right?
Happy Sunday. Where are gamboling happily today?
Looks interesting, but too bad, I don't know how to cycle!!! =[
ReplyDeleteNever too late to learn. :)
Deletehow does puttin up signs make KL a 'cycle-able" place? Now.. if there are cyclin lanes..then that will be something to shout about.... wonder how much those signs costs the taxpayers.. (just a question)
