Our 2019 Japan Trip To Nagoya Women's Marathon

6 months after our trip to Hokkaido, we were back in Japan again.
I ran in Okhostsk-Abashiri Marathon during last year's September trip and this time around, I ran in Nagoya Women Marathon. My 14th full marathon.
But unlike our Hokkaido trip when I registered to run in a marathon long after we booked our ticket and had our itinerary roughly planned out, this year's trip had to fit around the fact that I had registered to run in Nagoya Women's Marathon very early on. We bought a 5-days Kintetsu Rail Pass for 3,800 yen and used it to travel around Osaka, Kyoto, Nara and Ise Shima. We started using it on our second day there.
The pass also has a LOT of discounts for tourist attractions and for shopping. For a few days we were in Osaka, mostly visiting malls and shops. Then we visited Mount Yoshino. And stopped by Nara. (Well, Mount Yoshino IS in Nara prefecture, but you know what I mean la... Nara as in the temple & deer complex lah). Before heading to Nagoya, we visited…

Lunch At Alexis Bistro

A day before my trip to Japan, I met up with a friend for lunch ad we decided to have it at Alexis Bistro. She was craving for Sarawak Laksa and likes the one served there.
For me, I decided to order the lunch set menu which is a bargain at RM36+ The appetizer. Served piping hot. It was rather nice.
Sorry, I'm rather lazy to rotate this photo. Hahaha The came the main dishes.
Rice, with stir-fried vege and sweet & sour tofu. And this deep-fried fish served with a rather sweet sauce that  I didn't really like.
But the fish itself was nice.
It was finally finished off with desserts (sorry, no photo) of a slice of cake.

So, it's really quite a good deal for a set lunch.

I had fun meeting up and talking with my friend too.

Thanks for the lunch too! ^^

Streat Thai Dinner

Before our Free Solo "movie date" last Wednesday, Hubby and I had dinner at Streat Thai in Jaya One.
It's been some time since my last visit here so I was looking forward to its extra pedas, full of cili padi Pad Kra Prao. Hubby ordered the beef noodle soup which was also recommended by the waitress. I had my pad kra pao but I was quite disappointed that I was served the "mild" version of it. No kick.
After our dinner, we head to TGV One Utama for the special Free Solo screening courtesy of National Geographic.
Desserts was popcorn at the movies. Hehehe

Free Solo Special Screening At TGV

Ever since the 2019 Oscars and Free Solo won as Best Documentary (it also won an award at BAFTA), a few of my friends were excited to watch it at a special screening session done earlier and they had given rave reviews for it.

Free Solo is a documentary that captures the attempt of professional rock climber Alex Honnold attempts to conquer the first free solo climb of famed El Capitan's 900-metre vertical rock face at Yosemite National Park. So when I had the chance to watch it last Wednesday night, I was pretty excited too.
Amidst breathtaking scenery, captured magnificently by the teams of cameramen, we get a glimpse of Alex Honnold's pysche as he attempted to free solo El Capitan.
It's a brutally honest documentary about the climber, his relationship with others and the passion for free soloing.
We may question him for his risky endeavours.

But I think, his big smile at the end of the documentary says it all.
Thanks NatGeo.

Braving The Rain At Nagoya Women's Marathon 2019

I'm not sure what exactly made me balloted Nagoya Women's Marathon when it opened for ballot in 2018 for the 2019's marathon. I remembered joining the ballot for Tokyo Marathon and on a whim, entered the ballot for Nagoya Women's Marathon too. When looking for races to join in Japan, big races don't appeal to me and I rather join marathons  that have very limited number of foreign participants slots available.
I have to admit, Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto Marathon have never really appealed to me but of course, curiosity kinda killed the cat which was why I joined the ballot.
But I thought, I'd only go to if I got both Tokyo and Nagoya Women's Marathon slots and do a back-to-back races. Alas, I didn't get a slot for Tokyo Marathon but I did get into Nagoya Women's Marathon. In a hindsight, it really was for the best because training was really non-existent for me in the months leading to the marathon so doing a back-to-back would really be fooldhardy. (A…

International Women's Day Special: Inspiring Women Who Lead An Active Lifestyle

For the past years, a number of very inspiring ladies had been generous enough to spend some time to share their experiences with me, either through Q&A in my blog and some were featured in print, in our local English newspapers.
To celebrate the International Women's Day 2019, these are the women who had inspired me and I hope, my readers too.
Inspiration comes in many forms and these active women are nothing short of inspiring, in their own special way. A mother of three and an engineer by training, Eliza started Nashata Activewear to solve a problem she personally faced when she started wearing the hijab (tudung) in 2012.

Also in the photo above, Azlina Idris (standing on the extreme right in the photo) who started running after she quit her job to look after her children. Azlina did her first full marathon in Malaysia Women Marathon and her first ultramarathon in Pink 50, both in 2015.
Azlina & I, together with our late friend Evelyn Ang Loo were also featured in Bell…

53 But Going Strong Like I'm 35 , Says Doc Mimi

Every year on March 8th, the world celebrates International Women’s Day to support, raise, inspire and women across all fields. To celebrate the upcoming International Women’s Day in March, I asked a few questions to a few female triathletes who manage to juggle work, family and training life; in keeping of this year’s theme of #BalanceforBetter and celebrate women’s achievements and tenaciously challenge bias.
These strong women show us that with determination and focus, women can achieve so much more. They are women who embrace the multi-sports discipline of swim-bike-run with such determination and doing it in style.
This time around, Mimiwati Zahari who had just celebrated her birthday yesterday; spent some time answering my questions.
Thank you for spending time to answer a few of our questions. I really do appreciate it.
Also, congratulations for your Sub5 finish at Kyoto Marathon! For the readers, can you tell us a little bit about yourself? My name is Mimiwati Zahari, friends …

Ladies Lunch At Amarin Heavenly Thai

A group of us went for lunch at Amarin in Mid Valley and we had a great time. Good food, great service and awesome company! We ordered steamed siakap with lime chillies. Some fish cakes. Yummms. Stir fried chicken with hot basil leaves (too salty for my taste though). More food.
BBQ squid. Green curry chicken. Stir fried kangkong belacan. Omelette oyster.
This was for 8 of us and we did have trouble to finish our food! LOL
We didn't order any desserts as we thought buying it elsewhere would be better and cheaper. Haha
It cost around RM350 for the eight of us, plus refillable Chinese tea.
Quite OK la, considering the food we ordered, right?
