No Pets Allowed

Despite Raimie's requests, many many many many times to own a pet cat; his requests were always turned down. It's not that we're mean but owning a pet is by no means a small responsibility. Plus, with us being out of home most of the time, how is owning a pet be feasible?  Another problem, Mommy hates stray hairs. Humans or animals. *bluek*

He used to have a pet turtle. The Daddy and Son both wanted to own one. Turned out, after the initial excitement of getting it, it was Mommy who gotta clean the tank, feed and clean the turtle and got attached to it! When it got a tad too big, Daddy broached the idea of releasing the turtle to a pond nearby and Mommy was having none of it. She loved that turtle. Poor thing died though, after a couple of years with us. We buried it on top of the hill next to our apartment. :(

Son still loves cat and usually loves to play with the strays both at our home and at his granddad's. Also any random strays he found anywhere.
Mommy, while still refusing to let him have a cat; let him buy cat food. She told him to put some in a small bottle that he can carry around to make it easier for him to feed any strays.

Last week, while waiting for Mommy who was holed up somewhere with her friends; he spent his time feeding a few cats. He enjoyed it a LOT!
My, my. Looking at the cat food selection - cats sure have a charmed life. Mommy has not had a meal of salmon in ages! HAHAHA

p.s. can dogs eat cat food? Mommy can't afford to buy two separate food for stray cats & dogs so she's wondering whether the animals can share food.

  1. Kids love pets. Just like in the case of my kids. Now that they are away, I have to take care of their pets.

    2. It is sad to leave a beloved pet behind but at least they can still see them when they get home, right Wenn.

I hope the vouchers is useful to you. :-)

  2. I love dogs and cats too. I will not keep them as pets as I cannot bear to see them die. I will cry buckets of tears and mourn for a few years.

  3. I think certain pet food biscuits are same flavoured so I guess dogs and cats could eat them.

    1. I googled it up and read that cats & dogs require different nutrition.

  4. When I was younger I used to have many packets of packet meat and tunas in my car which I fed the hungry strays too. Later I gave up and started feeding homeless beggars instead who sleep under the bridges after midnight. I think I blogged about this before and I cooked Japanese curry for them. Muahaha

  5. Dogs will eat just about anything so yes they can eat cat food. However cats need to eat cat food or if they are eating prepared food they need fish. Because they need taurine which is in fish and most cat foods. Without it they can go blind and have heart damage.

    1. Hehehe...cat food has a higher content of salt actually. Learnt that during a furkids food sesssion.

    2. I read about the different nutritional needs too.

Cat needs more salt than dogs? ;-)

    1. I read up about it. While its nit good for long term, I guess for the occassional stray ones we come across, it should be OK.

Some of the commentors says it's probably ok. ;-)

  7. We steer away from wet food for the cats unless its absolutely necessary because these rascals will steer away from kibbles after they have had they the wet stuff. Somehow if we were to give them steam fish, they are fine to revert back to the dry food.

Hmmm...a cat or a pet is a good idea actually. Teaches responsibility. But why not bring kiddo to volunteer at the animal sanctuaries or even rescues? He gets to play with the furkids too:D

  9. interesting story and a lesson learnt too!! never ever have a pet anymore at home, cos it will end up with mommy taking care of it, and she would be the only one who feels sad of the departure of the pet while the boys probably are thinking of what next to have?? :p

  10. that is indeed a great idea to let Raimie carries his cat food around, so that he can feed the stray cats anytime he bumps into one.. ah, see him enjoying his time choosing the cat food in the supermarket, while daddy was busying selecting his pasta, and the kaypoh mommy curi-curi snap photos of them~~ :D

    1. Yup. Sometimes you bumped into strays, took pity on them but you can't take them home but wish to help... Carrying small packets if day food is easy.

  11. pets definitely have better life now, look at the pet food in supermarket shelves and you can understand that.. i think should have no problem to let the cats and dogs share the same food, maybe you should consult a vet, but definitely not those who sells pet food, haha~~

  12. You could adopt a Tokyo crow as a pet? It would sure get rid of your ghostly guests! :D

Seriously, though, I also wish I could have a cat, but itchy feet + pet = bad idea.

  13. Hmm, seriously, I think dog and cat food are the same. But heard that you shouldnt mix the food and give to your pet. Not so sure why!!

Having a pet is a big responsibility.

    1. I guess dogs and cats have different needs. But maybe, if I have no choice I'll give a bit to the dogs...

Pet ownership is a big responsibility. Pity a lot don't think so, judging by the numbers of strays I can see daily. :(

  14. Wait until Raimie comes to my Mom's house, he'll fell head over heels there... We had 12-13 cats, big and small, some were fluffy, some were a bit feisty... Hehee... My parents really love cats so much, they even spent quite a lot for their food, fresh ikan kembong rebus and their meds (if they fell sick). It is indeed a HUGE responsibility to have them around... Luckily me and my siblings had no health issues such as asthma etc. Some of the cats were so manja and like to be cuddled every time I went there... =P

Yeah, why not bring Raimie to the nearest SPCA animal shelter... He could become a volunteer there, patting and feeding those poor stray cats... It's very therapeutic too so I've heard...

    1. Have you done the volunteering there? Jom! :-)

    2. Not yet, but my friend once adopted a cat from SPCA in Sabah... It was very cute and hyperactive! @..@ Would love to volunteer myself too but dunno when la... Must allocate some time nih... After all life is all about giving back to others...

  17. Hi Lina,
Those were the same reasons why I don't own a pet. For the cleaning up part, it's always me, me and me alone.

For me the responsibility for owning a pet is still to big to handle when i have work to settle.

Ok then, have a nice day ahead yeah?

    1. Yeah, owning a pet is not just a matter of playing with them. There's that cleaning poop and stuff involved too. :P
