Is That All?
That's what the lady at my favourite Nasi Campur (mixed rice) stall would ask when she saw what I'd get for my lunch.
Here's the thing. I like my red meat. But generally I don't take it when I'm buying mix rice. Either I cook the meat myself or it's prepared a certain way (think yakiniku, steak, the likes). Fish - I love, but then again, for mix rice choice, I only eat catfish.
Chicken, meh. So choosy kan? Haha
My usual choice would be tempeh, ikan bilis and lots and lots of vege. Sometimes, because I got a bit "malu" at the stall lady since my tapau'ed lunch is so cheap (think RM3.50-RM4.50), I'd add more vege so it won't be too cheap. heh heh
And I always, always put kuah masak lemak on my rice. How lah to lose weight like that? All that santan for 5 days a week! @.@
p.s. Rurousha - if you must know, that's sambal ikan bilis (anchovies cooked in chilli paste & belacan) and nangka masak lemak (jackfruit cooked in yellow coconut gravy) and a dollop of sambal belacan!
that's quite a lot to me
ReplyDeleteIt's not about the quantity. She asked because I never seem to take chicken/meat. Mostly veges ^^
DeleteI love sambal ikan bilis!
ReplyDeletei have not try nangka masak..
ReplyDeleteis it good? I see it when I am in Malay stall but dont take it..
It's one of my fave so I'd say YES! ;)
DeleteRM3.5 to 4.5 is very cheap..
ReplyDeletefor me my usual price is like RM5~6
coz I took a lot also.. Normally i will take 2 meat + a vege..
cheap lah... because I mostly eat veges. Ikan bilis also not expensive. ;p
Deletebut nowadays is getting cheap..
ReplyDeleteyou could get a snack plate for RM10 and then you can purhcase a snack plate for 50% off..
So I normally share with my colleague.
At the end we pay about RM8 ...
good deal..
Wait, are you saying those economy rice seller intro snack plate? Like in KFC?? Got combo plate or no?
DeleteNot bad wert, they got upgrade huh!
why does the makcik need to ask you "itu saja"?? that lunchbox is not just "itu saja" to me..
ReplyDeleteLOL! This gadis sure eat a lot after burning lots of fat from running.
DeleteYup, I don't find it "itu saja" either. The mak cik is coaxing you to get more so she can charge more :p
She asked "itu saja" because no chicken. No fish. No meat in there. Most times I take 3 different kinds of veges only. Sometimes eggs. Sometimes ikan bilis. Most times tempeh.;)

ReplyDeletethis lunchbox looks like "ini semua untuk gadis seorang saja ke??!!" to me.. hahahaha!! :D
ReplyDeleteyou bought this at the lower ground floor foodcourt?? i bought from one stall 1 meat, 1 vege and 1 portion of potato chips..
ReplyDeleteand all i asked for is "kurang nasi", then she just charged me RM4.00.. so thrilled!! since then i like her already, hahaha~~
ReplyDeleteI always ask for half portion of rice. Cannot finish if normal portion. Anyway, nasi separuh is RM0.50. Normal is RM1.00. ;)
Deleteif get the same thing from the Garden's foodcourt, i think maybe close to RM10 already..
ReplyDeletelast time i used to buy mixed rice without rice, haha!! then this is not called mixed rice right?? :D
ReplyDeleteIt's called mixed-dish box then! Why no rice, SK? You don't like rice?
Deletei just took the dishes, so should call it mixed dishes??
ReplyDeleteKekeke, I guessed it correctly above :p
Deletei wanna cut down on carbo lah, very fat now!! so i think i'm gonna start that again.. no carbs for me for one month!!
ReplyDeleteWhy? Need to take pre-wedding photo ah? kikiki
DeleteWow! Very sinful dish there. lol! Happy Friday anyway.
ReplyDeleteCalorie laden! Haha
DeleteI like rice, and I don't mind if the dishes portion is just a little.
ReplyDeleteEvery time when we go out for nasi campur, all my other colleagues would ask for "nasi kurang". Usually I keep quiet, but seeing me having extra rice, lama-lama the rice will become bukit in my tummy. Thus I start asking for nasi kurang too T___T
I go for more lauk than nasi these days. But still need a little bit lah. I cannot go off rice, like SK did! xD
DeleteOh ya, no more catering for my lunch. Got many many 'eyes' watching over. Have to move on to other alternatives - cook own lunch, bring cute bento, drink plain water or starve until 5.30pm
ReplyDeleteWant to eat also got people so busy-body and not happy one ah? :(
DeleteWithout fail, if I spotted the sambal ikan bilis in the nasi campur stall, I sure take one. Love, love, love this dish very much.
ReplyDeleteActually I like ikan bilis. So when a dish has ikan bilis in it, it'll never escaped from me :p
I also like. But don't cook them much at home. Hubby is not a great fan. Likewise his family. Even if I get my petai stock from my dad, it's usually sambal udang petai and not sambal ikan bilis petain nowadays. hu~
DeleteThank you thank you thank you for anticipating my questions! :D I was frowning and scribbling notes and ... ta-DA, I found my answers. PS: You know me too well. Scary. ^^
ReplyDeletePS: Can I have some nangka masak lemak, please?
Send me some too? :)
DeleteYour blog makes me so jealous, Malaysian food is so so so tasty. Japanese food is awesome too, but Malaysian is so so cheap too. Perfect!
Jungle Women shares the same wavelength. ^^
DeleteI'd offer to cook for you both, but then again I'm a bad cook.I might just put you off Malay food! LOL
the nasi campur looks delicious :)
ReplyDeletethe ikan bilis was unusual big huh? :P me like it too haha
