PRESS RELEASE : INOV-8 PACESETTERS 3030 RUN 2014
Kuala Lumpur, 5 November 2014 – Foreigners swept 4 out of the 8 titles at the recently concluded INOV-8 Pacesetters 3030 Run 2014 at Padang Merbuk Car-park on Sunday 2 November 2014.
The 30km Men Open category was won by Michail Anatasis Xenos, age 28 from Greece, a project financial controller for Bombardier Inc. a Canadian multinational aerospace and transportation company. Michail has participated in several local events since arriving on March 2013, amongst which are Energiser Night Run 2014 (winner), 2XU Half Marathon (runners-up), Mizuno Wave Run (runners-up), Sundown Half Marathon Singapore (3rd Place) and Sundown Half Marathon JB (winner). He commented that the event was well organized, the route clear and hilly, plenty of water stations and good number of runners. He prefers a later start as he gets to bed pretty late!
The Men Open 20km was won by Malaysian, Jasni Khairil Jamaluddin an enforcement officer with DBKL from Bagan Serai, Perak. He was also the winner in the Puma Night Run recently. A total of 2,200 runners, including 121 foreigners from 28 nations took part in 8 categories over the 3 distances - 30km, 20km and 10km.
“As a running club, we encourage runners to go natural in their diet as we feel the best fuel the body can get is from natural sources. Therefore, we offered fruit-themed refreshments. We served bananas before, during and after the run. In addition, cup corn and water melons were provided as post run snacks. We also introduced salt water at the 14 drink stations to help runners prevent cramps. ” Wan Yew Leong, president Pacesetters Athletic Club.
Wan Yew Leong further said that “PAC’s vision and aspiration is to be the leading running club in the country and region. To achieve this, we will organise three events that aim to be “best in class” in the region. The INOV-8 Pacesetters 3030 Run 2014 is the first of these three events. 2014 is the 30th anniversary of the founding of the club and having a 30km run to celebrate this special occasion would be really memorable. There are 10 marathons and several more half marathons in Malaysia, but there are no 30km events. This is a boutique event and provides an opportunity for those wanting to test their readiness for the full marathon. For seasoned marathon runners, this is a long run that is essential for their marathon preparation”
“Our club’s tagline, ‘Setting the Pace Together’ was printed on the finisher’s shirts in 3 color, red for 30km, orange for 20km and green for 10km. The INOV-8 Pacesetters 3030 Run originated from a 30km training run organized by runners for runners many years ago. We hope this event will inspire other running clubs in the country to have their own events in their towns. We have a vision of a circuit of runs organized by runners for runners across the country. PAC will provide the lead in co-ordinating a series of runs by running clubs in 2015.” concluded Wan.
The sponsors for the event were INOV-8 (title sponsor), AirAsia-X (official airline), Multi-Purpose Insurans Bhd (Official Insurer), SWORKE (official eyewear), GARMIN (official fitness watch), BOH (official beverage), Running Malaysia (Media Partner) and Nelson’s (Bronze Sponsor). The club wishes to thanks all sponsors, volunteers, vendors, PDRM, St John, RELA, DBKL, runners and other stakeholders for making the event a success. The INOV-8 Pacesetters 30km Run 2015 has been set on 20 September 2015.
As prizes, each of the category winners wins a return air ticket to various destinations in Asia and Australia with details below. In addition, the first 5 positions also win a pair of SWORKE eyewear and a trophy.
