Makan-Makan In Perlis

Early in August month, we went to Arau, Perlis for our Son's matriculation. He'll be spending 10 months there before hopefully going onwards to further his studies in uni.

Registration was on Tuesday but we decided to go there a few days earlier so that we could go have a "Cuti-Cuti Malaysia" family trip.

It was the Hari Raya Aidiladha weekend so a lot of restaurants are still closed but we managed to find some decent makan and at a very affordable price too!
We arrived Arau at noon and the our first destination was Son's matriculation centre. We just wanted to check the place (from the outside) and then went looking for lunch.

We had our lunch at one of the stall that was open at a foodcourt nearby the matriculation centre.

Sedap. If I remember correctly, lunch was RM21+ including drinks.
Then, it was time to check-in. Our hotel was located nearby C-Mart and there are lots of shops around the area.

For dinner, we had dinner at one of the restaurants nearby. We had one of their sets meal at RM39.90.
Breakfast the next day was in Padang Besar.
Then, we had a second breakfast at a stall located right at the entrance of Padang Waremart.

They had Pulut Ayam which we wanted to try and we also ordered Pulut Mangga, Coconut drink and  Thai tea.
Total was RM20+ something.
For lunch, we went to Anjung Keli in Kangar.

Food was good. Price was OK, I guess.

But I didn't like it that much because it was way too crowded (it is a popular makan place, recommended by everyone) and there aren't much space for physical distancing.
Believe it or not, we still have some space for tea time and later, we went to D'Adna Laksa House in Kuala Perlis.

We enjoyed some good laksa beras there, enjoyed with pulut udang. We spent less than RM20 here.
For dinner, we decided to stay away from viral/popular eateries. I saw this ikan bakar place getting ready to be open on our way from D'adna Laksa House back to our hotel.

So dinner was at Dhiya Ikan Bakar & Seafood, Kuala Perlis. It's just by the road and across it, is the sea. Nice view.

We had Ikan Siakap Tiga Rasa, Salted Egg Crab, Sotong Goreng tepung, Tomyum Campur, Kailan Goreng and all that for just RM90+ for the three of us.
On our last day, and before Son's registration, we had breakfast at a stall nearby our hotel called Santai Arau.

Capati for breakfast.
The owner was really friendly and chatted with us, so we went to the same stall for lunch and had Mi Sup. Just RM4 per bowl and enough meat in there!

We tapaued some Pulut Udang to bring back too. It was RM0.70 per piece but size was big and the filling was generous. We ended up eating the Pulut Udang at a R&R on our trip back home.

Son has been there for three weeks now and doing pretty OK. He gives us daily report on his meals so that we know he'd eating well there.

His breakfast usually cost RM2.00 of either Fried Rice, Mee or Koay Teow.
His lunch and dinner cost between RM3.00 to RM4.50 so it was quite cheap.

He is staying in a dorm and received an allowance of RM250 per month while studying there and we just top-up a bit more for him. So far, no worries yet.

He is definitely having fun, making friends and studying there so we hope that he'll do great until the end of matriculation next year! Amiiin.

  2. Good to hear that he is having fun while studying diligently and eating well. Nice trip up north, food looks good. I wonder how pulut udang looks like. It is like the pulut ayam in the photo? I spotted watermelon and honey melon on the table in the ikan keli photo. All the best to your son! May everything go well and next year shall see him entering uni.
