I Walked This Run
Today’s Standard Chartered Fun Run was held in conjunction of the “Himpunan Sejuta Belia” or Millions of Youth Gathering event. The best part of this run was it’s FREE! Instead of joining my age group and do 5K Women Senior, decided to go for 8K Women Open. This is part of my “training” for SCKLM in June konon-kononnya. I know I have this resolution of not doing anything less than 10K this year, but again – this is a FREE run! We love free stuff! Also, the month of May saw me doing two runs (the other one was the Larian Bomba on May 6th) instead of one; because 1. it’s free 2. it’s in Putrajaya.
Weeks after registering for the run, I seriously had doubts running it. For one, it starts at 8.00am and I was very much ready to DNS it. Do you know how hot it is at 8.00am now? Secondly, the route was in the shadeless Putrajaya. Again, it’s hot and without shades. OK, so I’m used to running at that time in Putrajaya on weekends but those were slow runs. Plus I usually start at 7.00am and finish by 8.30am. It’s not easy to run let alone race while getting baked under the sun! I always come back looking like a “kuda belang” if I did a late morning run there.
Hence, the full compression wear I decided to don for the Fun Run. I feel a bit “poyo” wearing it for a short 8K run, but as Zaini said – who cares about what others think. My comfort should be priority. By the way, this was actually taken after the Run. ^^
Back to the Fun Run. Collected my race kit the week before. Race kit collection was painless enough. Very straightforward but getting to the race kit collection site was a nightmare! It was the day Kelantan FC had a match with Sime Darby FC at Stadium Bukit Jalil and the roads and the surrounding area were jam packed with a sea of Kelantan supporters, all decked in red. Traffic jam!
The starting line for 8K
The sea of people running 8K this morning. Can you spot me? I hyperventilated about which running vest to wear for this run days before the run. Why? For obvious reason - to make sure Zaini can spot me in any huge crowd and then, I can spot myself in the photos! LOL (psst... look for a pink cap) ^^ Anyhoo, you know you are not serious about a race when you care more about what to wear than whether you can actually run the race. ha!Started the run with... a walk. Cannot run lah. Way to many people in front of me. I started at the back because by the time we got to the park at Presint 4, it was about 4 minutes before the flag-off. When lah I want to learn to be early to a race site?
3K Costume Run participants. They have my respect and admiration. I can hardly jog under the scorching sun and they are running in the heat in costumes? Salute, man. By the way, just look at the boy's expression looking at those happily "weird" runners. kakaka
The starting line for the Costume Run. Got Naruto. Got Pocahontas. Got Kermit. Got sami/monk. Spongebob also came (Patrick was MIA. kakaka) Saw Jessie of Toy Story somewhere.
Costume Run runners sprinting towards the finish line.
and here's me, faking a run. I was already prepared for a slow timing for this run. Did I mention that the day was HOT? I can't deal with heat. Anyhoo, decided not to push it and get a heatstroke doing it. That's why I ran with my water bottle today. So I ran at a pace of 6:00 for the first 3K. Walk up the PICC hill. Jog down. Pushed a bit on the flat ground. Walk when there were inclines though I did push a bit going up the Seri Gemilang Bridge but stopped and walk halfway despite the many photographers there. (I usually pretend to run whenever I see photographers. haha) A combo of warm-up run (since I didn't do it prior to the start), walk, drink, jog, run, walk and smile smile at photogs for an overall of 7min pace for this 8K run. 56minutes 13 seconds. Slow, easy and "toasted". At least I won't be needing to take an MC on Monday to recover from this! LOLAfter the run, we walked all the way up to the Ministry of Finance checking out the booths that were set-up along the route for the Himpunan Sejuta Belia event. There's even a Sasuke area set-up. It's yet to open when we were there this morning though. Would be fun seeing contestants doing it.
Plenty of youths about. There is a scout jamboree by the lakeside, so plenty of scouts going about. Youths "rempit"ing on motorbikes and bicycles too. Plenty of booths to suit everyone and the area (Presint 2 - 4, all 6K of it) will sure be packed by noon! Tomorow would be the last day of this Himpunan Sejuta Belia and there'll be an ekiden run tomorrow. Whose entering?
Next run : SCKLM Half Marathon on June 26th.
I am happy to see you enjoy your run..
ReplyDeletethe best thing is that your family come and support you as well..
I'm blessed to have supportive husband and son. Imagine having to wake up at 5.30 just to accompany your wife doing things she enjoy. ;p
DeleteYup tat is d best part...
DeleteI saw some of my frens blog and they also went for this run...
Seems lots of fun...
Really need to drop at your friends' blog and read their post. They are on your sidebar or not?
Deletethe last 4 pic... is that a man running with an underwear? kakakakaka
ReplyDeleteNot a man. A boy. Doing 3K. :)
DeleteWhy boy running with underwear? Then with wig some more?
DeleteCostume mah! LOL
DeleteI can spot you in the sea of participants, not because of your vest. :P
ReplyDeleteNext time, you wear colourful, unique head gear - should stand out. hehe...
I'm willing to wear crazy things on my torso or legs but definitely not on my head. Don't want to get crazy headache afterwards from it. xD
Deletewah such a long post and so many photos!! i almost gave up reading lah, but yet i survived till the very last full stop!! haha~~
ReplyDeleteYou know I always write long-winded stories about my runs, don't you? ^^
DeleteThank you for not giving up reading! LOL
I agree is a very long post...
DeleteBut I also survive..
I think blog 101... Short notes n lots of pics....
I mix them up. But mostly long post and lots of photos. Lucky most of you survived reading my posts. kakaka
Deleteso the whole 8K is walking not running?? hahaha, i can see why, because it's free!! but i wonder since it's free, maybe there are more who just get the running kit but then stay at home on the running day~~ :D
ReplyDeleteNo lah. Walk 8K would take me like an hour and a half to finish! LOL
DeleteI think I spent a good part of 3K "power walking".
Judging from the turnout, I think most of those registered turned up. :)
yeah, i can spot you in the photo!! hahaha, actually two photos!! so any prize for able to spot you?? :p
ReplyDeleteI'd kiss you but since you are reserving your kiss for Twilight Man, I better not! Bwahaha!!!!
Deletewow, so many categories lah!! so you didn't join the "makcik" category and joined the younger category?? hahaha~~
ReplyDeleteThe categories were from A to M if I'm not mistaken.
DeleteDon't lah call it a makcik category. Lagi I won't enter that category! LOL
but i think the cosplay category is the most interesting!! haha, never have seen this thing before lah, so cool!!
ReplyDeleteGot. Quite a number of races have special prizes for best costume one. NTV7 Feel Good Run in July has one.
DeleteAnd some of the previous runners in costumes are crazy!
Anyways, a group of runners wore traditional Malay attire during this run, plus the Jalur Gemilang draped over their shoulder. :)
and yeah, just like you said, running with those costume covering all up, really easy to get heat stroke lah!! merbahaya~~
ReplyDeleteThat's why costume run is a short. :)
DeleteBut some runners can don a costume and do a 42.195K you know. Because they can stand it. And the attention for it is priceless, especially if you want to carry a point doing it. ^^
wow, got a 3/4 naked guy running there!! is that even allowed?? but i think he is smart, his costume is just so nice for running under the scorching sun, haha~~
ReplyDeleteNearly naked boy. About Raimie's age.
DeleteWhy not wear like that? I think that boy participates in kids tri or something. You won't bat an eye-lid for participants running in a triathlon wearing skimpy attires. ;p
errr, so got any ranking and finisher medal??
ReplyDeleteNope. Fun Run mah.
DeleteOnly top people get ranking and medal.
The rest of us get certificates. Free race. Don't expect too much. ^^
Kuda belang is a zebra? Wheee! Africa! (^0^)
ReplyDeletePS: So next time you run in a zebra costume and a pink cap? :D
Need to look for a kuda belang outfit first. You got any? ;p
DeleteIt's fun if we can survive the heat..I don't think I can stand the heat.
ReplyDeleteMind over matter. xD
DeleteThe costumed runners must have been fun to watch. Good that you had fun.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to see them in action myself because I started my run at 8.00am and they were flagged off at 8.30am.
DeleteBut fun to see them walking around after the run. They got lots of requests of photos. :)
ROTFLMAO!!!! That boy's expression!!! Hahahaha!! Can't stop laughing! XD
ReplyDeleteSo funny lah that boy's expression looking at those weird runners dressed up in those costumes! Haha!!
ReplyDeleteHe must've been thinking, why lah these people so weird one. LOL
DeleteOf course can spot you lah. So easy, you always wear red and you had a red cap on. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI had wanted to wear a white running vest for this run actually but decided against it, because the official t-shirt is white. kakaka
DeletePink cap is on when sun is involved. I didn't wear the cap for night runs. :)
But good observation, Panda! ;p
But I think red/orange/pink are my lucky colours. The time I didn't wear them, I had a lousy run! wakaka
DeleteYeah nowadays so hot! Running at 8am also can get baked! : )
ReplyDeleteI'd hesitate starting a run at 7.30am now because I know in a few minutes time, it'll get too hot to bear. @.@
DeleteSo when will you ever be on time for your runs? LOL!!
ReplyDeleteShould I? I'm a true Malaysian and run on Malaysian time! Bwahaha
DeleteI survived reading this post..... almost gave up half way, fuh~
ReplyDeleteThank you for surviving. LOL
DeleteI remembered some important points
ReplyDelete1. Hot day
2. Pink cap... it looks like red to me :p
3. Kuda belang
4. Spot the gadis (yes, I saw you)
5. Cosplay runners
6. Blue-undies runner
Very good! *clap clap*
Delete^^
The cosplay runners, so epic la. See them, I sweat already....
ReplyDeleteBut they sure are attention-grabber right? :)
DeleteSometimes it's so funny to see others' behaviour and choices.
ReplyDeleteUnder the scorching hot sun, they still opt to wrap themselves. Just the same for those running in winter, some runner opt to wear bikinis and swimming trunk. Salute!
It's fun lor...
DeleteWould you consider running in bikini, Yvonne? Sure popular one! LOL
I would, if I have a to-die-for body like Sharon Stone. I don't want to make every runner falls into the nearby drain after seeing my bulging tummy and elephant thigh - such a horrible sight!!
DeleteMuch better what, if you can dazzle or blinded them. Sure can win the race like that! LOL
Deleteoh, there's sponge bob and naruto, I like those 2 cartoon characters that I have a collection of their movies. wkwkwk
ReplyDeleteMe too! Actually the whole family loves Spongebob & Naruto. :)
DeleteWOW got people wear undies only!!! HAHAHA
ReplyDeleteCooler what! Less clothes! LOL
DeleteAren't the SCKLM on the 24th June? @_@"""
ReplyDeleteCause I'm flying to KL on 22nd :)
This was SCFR (Standard Chartered Fun Run) ^^ Max distance was 8K "only". ;p
DeleteDun worry. SCKLM is still on June 24th. keke
Oh, no I mean I was referring to ur last sentence "Next run : SCKLM Half Marathon on June 26th." this bah tu XD;;;
