A Sneak Peek Of SCKLM 2014 New Full Marathon Route
First of all, thank you Standard Chartered KL Marathon (SCKLM) and everyone involved in giving me the opportunity to be a part of the media team to tour the SCKLM route. It was great fun! Not only we get to see and experience the route firsthand, we did it in the comfort of the double decker Hop On Hop Off Bus, which was escorted by outriders and Honda Gold Wing Bikers.
We were made to feel like VVIP during the tour! It was indeed a rare experience.
Now all we have to do is to experience the route ourselves by running the whole 42.195km come Oct 12th, 2014! FUN! Hahaha
The pre-race and media tour started on the arrival of runners who actually ran the course in the morning and we made a move after everyone had a chance to interview the runners.
We then headed to Dataran Merdeka where the Hop On Hop Off bus was waiting and proceeded with our tour.
The tour was guided and narrated by SCKLM's coach, Mr Mark Williams, who did a great job. We had an informative and entertaining ride.
Mr Mark Williams is confident that a course record will be set at this route. So, look forward to it!
A flat start, through KL City Centre with the view of major skylines including the Petronas Twin Towers.

It's an undulating route with plenty of ups and downs along the highway (both AKLEH and DUKE - Duta - Ulu Klang Expressway).
You have time to put in more hill training NOW!
Almost home free! Just a km away now from Dataran Merdeka? ;-)
All in all, I like the route. Yes, it may be tough what with running on an undulating shadeless highway and expressway but runners get a scenic Kuala Lumpur view all along the run and on an elevated level too!
A plus is that the road will be totally closed off at certain stretches and at AKLEH and DUKE section. Ain't that fun?
I'm imagining selfie galore whenever we see Petronas Twin Tower in the background, which we get LOTS!
disclaimer : the route is giving some runners nightmares, truth be told. I'll just hobble and enjoy it anyway I can. Positive thinking works better! Hahaha
