Oh The Chafing!
Apart from a good pair of shoes and socks, I don't go out for a run without slathering certain body parts (my feet and underarm actually) with Vaseline
1. to avoid blister on my precious feet. Yes, they still look good in heels, now that the one toenail that was missing has grown back. ^^
2. chafing on my arms, which is why you won't ever see me run wearing a baggy or cotton t-shirt.
but seems I got another body part I should worry about now...
It's blurry on purpose. Anyway, it stings with sweat during my run and during shower afterwards. And to think that I was actually wearing something I always wear for my weekday run!
Maybe the running shirt I wore got too loose now that the top moves around and create friction? Hahaha... that should make me happy, right? I guess I better get myself a new sports bra soon! That, and to remember to cover this wound with something for Saturday (10K) and Sunday (13K) runs. Now, where did I put our stock of Handiplast?

How did you loose a toenail? Did a Tokyo train commuter stand on your foot? ;)
ReplyDeleteTwo runs? Saturday *and* Sunday? I think I prefer sitting next to a fishing pond. The fish can do the running. :D
Being stepped by a Tokyo commuter? You bet I'd make a story out of that if it happened! xD
ReplyDeleteNo... just like any other pain I have for my legs - it was running related injury. I was quite proud of losing it, actually. ;p
I though fish swim not run? Sorry, sorry. Can't resist.
Weekends highlights for me being able to wake up reaallllly early and go out for a long run. ^^
The body generated sweat and heat differently when doing difference distance runs. The gears that good for 10k may not good enough for 21k or FM. You will need to exam your gears during your training :)
ReplyDeleteBtw, for the blister on the feet or toes issue, you can improve it by doing some barefoot drills. My toes no longer have blisters after I started to have some training in VFF.
I guess I need to look at my gears again. ^^
DeleteI'm OK with rubbing Vaseline at my feet - no issues with blister once I had Vaseline but yeah, maybe I should try BF drills. Thanks for suggestion, Neoh! :)
alahaiiii sian nya .. pedih nih nak mandi nihhhhhh :D
ReplyDeleteTakpa, aku brutal. Muekeke
DeleteBody glide! That's what you need and that's what I'm going to get from Frank Chong's Running Lab soon cos I get horrible chaffing from my HR straps, so bad that it bleeds at times, especially for longer than 15K runs!
ReplyDeleteAs for the feet blisters, it could be the shoes and socks, especially when you get your feet wet from all that sweat during your run. Try out the Injinji's, they snug and works well for the wife.
Happy weekend running!
But Body Glide expensive or not? I'm OK with Vaseline so far. Just that I'm surprised that I've got chafing on the chest area now. Never had that problem before.
DeleteWah, moving from Thorlo to Injinji ah? They are so damn expensive lah Nick! I think so far with Vaseline an using either my Thorlo or Nike's anti-blister socks works OK for me. ^^
True, those Injinji's are pretty darned expensive which is why the wife uses it and not me ... hehehe ...
DeleteI find the Thorlo's tend to get totally drenched in my longer runs and leads to blistering. I use my Nike's for my longer runs and my Thorlo's for my shorter runs.
The body glide is pretty steep, price wide, not sure how much but definitely way more than what vaseline costs!
Tried body glide before (RM38 for a small one, 30g if I remember correctly), still prefer Vaseline (RM5 for 150g, can use few months) due to cost and effectiveness (felt strange using body glide, don't know why but it doesn't work well).
DeleteThanks Nick & Neoh! For RM38 a tub, I think I'll stick with my tub of Vaseline. xD
DeleteNick - wah, you sure know how to pamper your wife, eh? ;)
@Neoh? RM38 for a 30g?!!! Craps, that is steep but I'm still going to try it anyway cos Vaseline just doesn't work for me.
Delete@Lina, Have to la, she's my running mate and must always be kept happy ... hehehe!
Ooh, that looks bad, the one in the blurry image. Recreational hazard.. But you've got all the essentials in place, so good to go. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not as bad as it look, more annoying than painful actually. Not to mention distracting, because I keep on tugging my blouse when I was running.
DeleteFish run! It's official: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sardine_run
ReplyDeleteHere's an amazing video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KckmtxjKoAc
Sorry. I'm running off track again. ^^
Another Africa's natural wonder! Cool!
DeleteYou can run off-track, off-tangent, off anything here. I don't mind.
wah, really so many things to take care of before you head to run huh?? errr, vaseline for your underarm??
ReplyDeleteIf it's a long run, yeah I have quite a number of things
Delete1. MP3 Player
2. Vaseline
3. Towel (I sweat like a pig!)
4. Bottled water, hydration belt
5. Energy food - gel, table
6. Oh! Need a banana too before the run. ;)
7. Toilet visit.
LOL
All that preparation and it's not as if I'm running all that good. "Poyo" is what my husband call me. Huhuhu
ok ok, i think i got it now.. not armpit but underarm to reduce the friction?? hehehehe, but why?? your arms are too "strong" already?? :D
ReplyDeleteIt's because arms are fat and flabby that's why got friction and chafing. I've got "auntie" arms. Boohooo!!!!
Deletehmm, i wonder which part of your body was that in the photo?? but seems the wound is a bit serious.. ok, so get a good sports bra then~~ (^.^)
ReplyDeleteWhich part? It's the area where the fabric of a low cut blouse or bra comes into contact with skin. Know or not? ;p
Deleteand who said running is cheap.. mana nak beli new gear lah body glide lah injinji lah to prevent all these "injuries".
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I hope your problem will clear up soon. perhaps take a weekend off running? is that possible? hahaha i've been running but not as far as i'd like to. My late grandma swore you can fix every skin problem with vaseline. hahahaha
So with all this running, dah victoria's secret slim lah ni?? amboiii cik kak... boleh tahan! :)
Itu la kan? And to think that I started running because I didn't want to spend so much money on gym membership and personal training sessions! Free kononnya. Yeah running is free, but the gear sure ain't! LOL
DeleteI wish dah Victoria Secret's slim! Tapi bolehla pakai kebaya2 lama yang dah bersarang kat dalam almari tu. hihihi... But a few more kgs to go to get the ideal weight. And that few more kgs seems so hard to achieve. huhuhu
Oh this works for the toe nails? Coz mine doesn't seem to grow properly. So ugly now.
ReplyDeleteIt works to avoid blister lah...
DeleteMy toenail grew back after I totally pull out whatever left of the blue/black one and the new one grew after a few months. ^^
Ouch!! But than again it's part of sports. And you're one tough woman, so not really a biggey. Salams.
ReplyDeleteYeah, part and parcel of having fun in sports. But learning to minimise injuries is quite important. ;)
DeleteThanks for dropping by and commenting! ^^
One friend gets chafing quite frequently and recently on my recommendation, she tried the Moving Comfort bra (nope I don't wear one but know that they make good ones from what I've read). She loved it and is getting a 2nd pair. You can find them at the Brooks outlet at The Curve.
ReplyDeleteBTW, the shower effect on chafing is called the Michael Jackson effect. Coz that's when you squeal like how he does.
Thanks Jamie for the recommendation! I'll check it out when we are going to Ikea soon! ^^
DeleteLOL on the Michael Jackson effect. And nope, although I'm a girl, I don't squeal! Ever! xD
You gotta love your sport for all the bruises and injuries we get from them :) Badges of honor!
ReplyDeleteYes, I wear them proudly! :)
DeleteOMG I have so much to catch up! ahahah it's been very busy weekend and Monday! yikes!
ReplyDeleteOh I wonder where that bruise is located? ;))
I think taking care of our skin is a very good investment before we get too old and our skin becomes wrinkled
