3D2N On An Island
On an island famous for its food. Where we went to because Mommy at the last minute (almost last minute) decided to run on its bridge and dragged the family along... to Penang. Making Daddy drove for 5 hours to get there. Pity the Daddy! hahaha
Nothing funky was eaten. Didn't go all crazy eating too. It was pretty much a relaxing 3D2N trip without too much excursion or gastronomic adventure. Blame the weather! It was too darn hot to walk around. @.@
We arrived on Saturday and had this for lunch, at Queensbay Mall.
Nothing to shout about. Small portions but it's Japanese and we chose it because Mommy didn't want to have an upset tummy running on Penang Bridge at 3am the next morning. No curry. Nothing spicy. Definitely nothing gassy either.
On the second day, it was Nasi Kandar time!
Om nom nom... went to Nasi Kandar Line Clear a bit early to avoid the lunch crowd. Saw plenty of runners/marathoners wearing their finisher t-shirt enjoying their lunch there.
Walked around for a bit but Son got grumpy for having to deal with the heat (it was a super hot, sunny day) so to placate him, we had gelato. Sitting outside, enjoying the breeze and vehicles fume.
We went to Batu Ferringhi in the evening,
Char koay teow for dinner
Got a little bit peckish that night, so had a packet of fried beehun too. Beehun for Daddy too and Raimie had a packet of Nasi Lemak for his supper. Mommy went to sleep at 9.00pm, woke up at 10.00pm, continued her sleep until 12.45am. Woke up, got ready for her run and Daddy drove her over to race site at 1.30am. Crazy. HahahaOn the second day, it was Nasi Kandar time!

We went to Batu Ferringhi in the evening,
and had laksa for dinner. Son insisted on eating them.
and on the last day,
Squid and fish head feast! OMG! They are so delicious.
I think we bumped into Massy after having this lunch and while walking towards Pasar Chow Rasta to buy our jeruk. Sorry didn't notice you until you already passed us, Massy! Actually, the funny thing is - I looked at your friend and thought he looked familiar! Alamak! This auntie looked at the guy but didn't notice the girl! *facepalm*
Next visit to Penang - hopefully in 2013. Running on a new bridge, hopefully. ^^
You had fun time in Penang! Nice short holidays and yummy food too!
ReplyDeleteFun time indeed. :)
DeleteWow! The food all looks delicious! Maybe I'm hungry! LOL
ReplyDeleteAt 3:46am? I'm usually hungry if I'm awake at that time! LOL
DeleteOh it's hot in Penang? Not rainy like in PJ? : D
ReplyDeleteNo rain on Saturday and Sunday. It only rained cats and dogs on Monday. o.O
DeleteNo prices stated? It is getting a bit too expensive to eat in Penang these days - too touristy, not so nice anymore. You would get cheaper and better in the smaller towns like Sg Petani, Bukit Mertajam...
ReplyDeleteSame price as in KL lah...
DeleteBut for the nasi kandar, it was way nicer to eat it in Penang still.
No chocolate? o_0
ReplyDeletePS: I had to laugh at myself. I looked at the photos before I read your story. "Oh, that looks very Japanese," I thought as I observed the second and third photo. Duh, Ru, it is! :D
Yeah well... why go to Penang, just to eat Japanese food eh? For that amount of travelling time, we can actually (almost) travel to Japan! ;p
DeleteChocolates? Of course there's chocolate consumption. No photo as they were gone in record time. LOL
yeah, i have that impression that Penang always come with hot weather when i go there.. maybe because it's an island??
ReplyDeleteI can stand the heat if there's breeze but if no angin....die :-P
Deletethe garlic fried rice looks nice.. but taking a closer look, it's a bit too moist for my liking lah.. plus you say nothing to shout about, haha, then maybe it's just so-so..
ReplyDeletesamelike any other Japanese food chains are offering. Nothing special. Quite pricey for me too.
DeleteWowww, makanthon in Penang is a MUST kan Kak Lina, I missed eating nasi kandaq there coz I was rushing back home on Sunday juz wanna avoid the congestion and heavy traffic flow...
ReplyDeleteLuckily i managed to eat the Char Kuew Tiow and Nasi Briyani Ayam Kapitan... Yummeh! Oh, plus I had this Sizzling Lamb Chop in BM... Definitely Heaven on earth...
Erk, u didn't take pics of all the jeruks, esp jeruk Salak? Jeruk is a good ole2 from Penang... hehee...
I tak beli banyak jeruk... Zaini x suka jeruk manis. :-D
DeleteI went back on Monday. Thank goodness takde jam. :-)
i only realized it's a night run at the wee hours when i saw updates on facebook.. so you guys are all running at 1-2am in the morning till the sun rise and shine?? OMG, crazy~~
ReplyDeleteI started in the dark and finished in the dark too. Arrived to the last km of the route being greeted by the azan for subuh prayer. :-D

ReplyDeleteno... So pity kan? The weather forecast showed it was going to rain at 4am so bracing for heavy rain, I left my camera behind and plastic wrapped my handphone. ):

Delete5 hours drive? Got so long ka KL to Png? Ahem ahem...stopped somewhere to bollywood ka? :p

Deletewei...the batu ferrighi shop...what name and address?...wanna list down the makan place. next time go penang can makan there
ReplyDeletehonestly, we hantam simply go to any stall one. Didn't purposely look for any particular shop to eat. :-D

Batu Feringghi so crowded and busy lah...
DeleteCannot do uncensored action also! wakaka
The only hawker food we had was at Gurney on Friday night. Three of my mrsm buddies also came for JJCM :P so makan sodap la. Saturday I didn't follow them to find makan-makan sebab takmo penatkan diri sangat haha. Dan takut perut upset (because when I eat, I eat!). So I missed some must-haves there..but that's okay. For now. Hehe
ReplyDeleteBetul betul betul... Takpe... for now. hehehe
DeleteI pun on Saturday tu, tak go out makan too much. Kang perut upset, bercinta nak beratur kat portable toilet atas jambatan lak kang! hahaha
Wah! Penang delicious food!!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny that when I visit the island, I never tried out their local specialty... Hubby is no fan of hot and stuffy place. He prefers air-cond and hence we always ended up in franchise restaurants, boohoo!
He dun wan his puteri lilin to melt mah. LOL
