Bread!
I love bread. Not the "fluffy, cannot get full even after eating them" kind of bread that you can get at Bread Talk or Bread Story or most local bakeries with those Japanese inspired breads (or "Hokkaido mari" since most Malaysians seemed to think anything Hokkaido mari is good, the way Japanese food/bakeries/sweets/ice creams/chocolates have the Hokkaido name attached to it).
Yes yes. They are nice. I love those chicken floss bun but my favourite bread are those I can really sink my teeth into and chew for ages.
Love these "Mat Salleh" bread. Those chewy, "dentures will come out" if you bite the bread type. Wholemeal, multi-grains, 7 grains, dunno what seed, all those. Yummy!
I did mention I'm starting my marathon training, right? With the training comes a bit of change in my meal. Now, I'm eating these type of bread for dinner on the nights I run. Mamak curry is now limited to at the most, twice a week!
Plus, I'm flattening my already flat butt and get it sore at least twice a week on this baby here as part of my marathon training. Three runs a week; one intervals, one tempo and one LSD plus cross training on this bike, 30-45minutes per session. I should fit swimming somewhere in the schedule but I'm really lazy to head to the pool.
Occasionally, if we have a free Saturday morning, we'd head over to Lake Garden to join the My First Run Clinic there as an encouragement for son to pick up running. ^^
Anyway, a run on Nov 25th in Johor caught my eyes. I couldn't resist asking hubby about it and maybe do something crazy like having 4 races in 4 weeks, back-to-back this month. It has a 20K run category and I'm supposed to do an 18K LSD at PMP+30sec (nothing to strenous - I need to run it at 7.40min pace) that week anyway. Hubby looked at me and asked "shall I register to somewhere where they call you a Maniac?" Hur hur

They say, bread...best make your own. Get a bread maker... Those at the bakeries, all the preservatives - that's why can keep for so many days, no need to refrigerate.
ReplyDeleteOf course best to have homemade bread, but I'm lazy la... Now also sleep for 6 hours... If wanna think about baking and everything... Less sleep pulak!
DeleteI know. I know. It's excuses. :-D
yah le .. I also OK just to buy those normal white bread..
DeleteMassimo wheat bread is good and cheap..
Good enough for me
Everything homemade is good, but need to spend the time to prepare and cook/bake them. I just don't have enough time to use~ resort to buying lor.
DeleteMassimo is good, better than Gardenia but I prefer the ones sold to "mat salleh" taste one. ;)
DeleteYvonne,
Yalah... Homemde is great provided we have time and love to bake. :)
I love that Mat Salleh bread you mentioned....thick and filed with lots of bran & chicken feed grains! Muahahahahaha
DeleteYalah... like eating chicken feed right? kekeke
DeleteMe like wholemeal too, hehe, purple wheat Gardenia is the best bread I`ve ever tasted... so yummy and healthy whole grain fiber some more...
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Marathon Maniac, I think I wanna try to catch that insanity too next year, I read that U have to run 3 marathon within 60 days, if I`m not mistaken, then U are qualified to apply for that MM running vest... Sounds awesome kan Kak Lina...
Wahh, sgt sistematik la training FM kak Lina, siap ada basikal lagi... cross training is awesome! I could only do interval, tempo n LSD only... Happy running in Johore too Kak Lina, bole makan angin sambil wat LSD... U can do it, strong Petai Lady... =D
Not to say I hate / love bread..... just that I can survive without bread. And I don't mind having bread daily. Ish, hard to describe how I feel towards breads :p
ReplyDeleteI'm fine with any breads - wholemeal, white bread, with filling, plain ones.
Deletemy wife love to eat bread..
Deleteshe even ask me to get her 2 champion breads from Lavender for her birthday..
Yvonne, that's how I feel about rice! I've become very fond of Japan's sticky rice, but it wouldn't make any difference if I never had it again*. Bread, though, oh, bread ... Soul food. Life support. Better than chocolate! ^^
Delete* Is that blasphemy in Asia?!
@eezard,
DeleteFor me, I don't like the mass market, off the shelves bread. I like to buy the ones freshly baked daily. Gardenia bread gives me acidic stomach. xD
I'm definitely not aiming to be Marathon Maniac. No intention to be a streaker also. Just that, somehow the runs that I aimed for all are close to each other. hahaha
@Yvonne,
I love bread but if don't eat also, can survive. ;p
@SP,
I seldom buy bread at Lavender. That one nice ke?
@Ru,
With the number of health and weight concious people in Asia avoiding rice altogether, not eating and not liking them isn't frowned at. Rather - people can be in awe. Tsk. LOL
After going to Japan, my wife has started baking breads for me to eat cos she saw how crazy I went eating bread whole day in Japan. Lavender is SP's favourite shop. I suspect he got share there. He bought me mooncakes from there. Not cheap wor....
DeleteI eat rice for breakfast for a week in Japan, got kinda sick of it and then only wallop bread for the rest of the holiday! LOL
DeleteAnd when having complimentary hotel buffet breakfast, I usually don't go to the bread corner. I'll have the local and cold meat first. Bread is my last choice.
ReplyDeleteI'd go to bread section first. :) Pile up of bread and cheese.
DeleteI also avoid those bread corner. So cheap and wasted to eat bread in hotels. Must hentam their bacons and chickens.
DeleteBut multi-grains and wheat bread (the one that gwailo eat) are expensive outside wor...
DeleteSo eat bread during buffet breakfast also good value what... but cepat kenyang lah. xD
Why are you smiling and grinning in the photo?
ReplyDeleteMacam tengah syiok staring at ppl's butt >.<
No banana-eating for you, eh? Saw the guy next to you was happily munching his banana away, hehehe~
DeleteNo lah... I was grinning at what Raimie was saying.
DeleteI make sure the photographer didn't take my photo while I makan banana.
Fuyoh!!!She was flexing her big arms and muscles! Her arms are bigger than SP's thigh!!
DeleteTM so BAD!!!!! Kutuk my big arm! *sob sob*
DeleteI couldn't agree more! I loathe the fluffy French stuff that Tokyo is so fond of: it's just air and white flour and pretence. Give me German breads (rye, seed, whole wheat, seven grains) that require real jaw muscles! :D
ReplyDeleteYes! Gimme those that really make my jaw muscle do some workout... those I love. Those airy bread. Pshhhh...
Deletelina, because of bringing my girl to Ipoh for ping pong training, her tournament is in Perlis end of this month. I have stopped going to gym for 2 weeks. Last night, I really felt shiokalingam for spending 1 hour on treadmil, ran at 7kmph and burned a total of 500 calories.
ReplyDeleteNice.
DeleteGood for you.
I hate running on treadmill.
If I do, I need to rammed it up to min 9 just to make sure I get a similar speed as running on the road.
I love running on treadmills in the gym cos the TV and games will distract me from checking the distance. Safer too!!! On the road I kena chased by gila dogs!!!
DeleteKena chased by dog la bagus. Speedwork! Muahaha!!!
DeleteFor me, I cannot have distraction of TV lah... I run slower like that. ;p
I was amazed at 4 races in 4 weeks, back-to-back this month. I would just say, good to be active and be healthy.
ReplyDeleteNo lah. Just three confirmed so far.
DeleteI won't be doing the JB. I'm interested but I have to think about Zaini who has to drive me north and south this month.
Give that guy a break lah. ^^
Exercise can make us feel so good about ourselves. Tonight, I will go for Yoga.
ReplyDeleteYoga at the gym ke yoga with Jin Jin? kekeke
Deleteactually I prefer the soft bread than the hard chewy ones..
ReplyDeleteI'm opposite.
DeleteWenn is so young but eat bread like grandma! LOL
DeleteTM... bad again!
DeleteLater Wenn went and sulk, you pujuk! ;p
ROTI!! and yes, i am a bread person too.. love anything soft or chewy or hard, sweet or savory..
ReplyDeletebut cannot eat too much lah, too much carbs and fattening also with all those processed flour and sugar.. unless buy those expensive ones with wheat and better flour..
Deleteyalor, all those hokkaido cake or whatsoever?? i've never tried any lah.. unless in a japanese bakery, else those whatsoever bakery just gave the name "japanese" or "hokkaido" i never feel interested at all..
Deleteitu cold storage at gardens?? i love one of the garlic and herbs roll lah, RM0.99 a piece, very nice..
DeleteYup, I took that photo at Cold Storage. Love their selection of breads. :)
DeleteCarbs - I need carbs. Especially before a race. Cannot carbo load with pasta. Pasta gives me gas. LOL
Yeah, never really interested in those places simply tagging their product as "Japanese" or "Hokkaido" brand one.
just run lah, make it a back-to-back for this month, this is sure something to be proud of.. and i don't think you will have many chances to do that..
ReplyDeletemaniac?? are you one yet?? hahaha.. i guess there are still a lot of maniacs more maniac than you out there lah.. you are mak-niac ony lah!! :D
Deleterunning in JB?? then you can plan another cuti-cuti malaysia again?? but i don't think you will be going to the legoland right?? :p
DeleteCannot be all crazy about it lah... later injured. Susah.
DeleteActually, I hurt my left foot ysterday. Walking gingerly today. huhuhu
JB run. I will give it a pass. Kesian Zaini. ;)
I also like those bread that I can chew and chew and chew! More fun than bread that end up in the stomach with a few bites LOL!
ReplyDeleteHi-5!
DeleteEh! Tersebut bread brand pulak! kakaka
But they say bread is not good for health. So I guess just eat in moderation.
ReplyDeleteEverything in excess also not good.
DeletePeople also say rice is not good. xD
So Raimie has taken up running? Like mother like son? : D
ReplyDeleteNot really lah... just let him join easy runs once in a while. Mana tau, he'll eventually loves to do it. ^^
DeleteLina, it's not that difficult to make your own bread! Trust me, I'm no baker tapi dah berbulan I buat white bread & wholemeal bread sendiri. hehe. Tapi my bread memang a bit dense, kawan I buat tak macam tu sangat. But because it's homemade, I don't feel that bad. My kids took a bit of time to get used to my bread, but because they 'live in an army camp' they have no choice. Hahaa..
ReplyDeleteI'm the type who has a hard time following a recipe to the tee. Habis my bread. kakaka
DeleteLove that "army camp" comment. :)
I am a bread person, love my bread fresh from the oven especially French loaves!
ReplyDeleteOoooh... the smell of freshly baked bread. Heaven! :)
Deleteme not crazy about roti. If me one month no roti also wont miss it
ReplyDeleteBut hubi like eat bread..
Deletehmmm eyeing Johor ah? Means going cuti cuti Malaysia kat Johor la? Got Legoland leh
DeleteKucing sure won't like bread la. Better eat fish! hahaha
DeleteNo lah. Not going to JB. Interested but won't go.
Legoland? Daddy won't go to the one in JB. Actually we have been wanting to visit Legoland but the one in the "Mat Salleh" land punya. hehehe
