When Politics Enter Sports - Change of Date For Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2015

I'm highly disappointed with this.

It's one thing to postpone a race date to haze (as per in 2013) or election (BIM 2012), natural disaster (Mount Kinabalu Climbathon 2015) or national security or other more valid reasons for an INTERNATIONAL event but to move Standard Chartered KL Marathon date from Oct 4th to Oct 10th is just an irresponsible move from Ministry of Youth and Sports with nary a care of the costs involved by overseas and outstation participants who had registered for the event.

The impact will not only be towards the 35K runners who registered but also their family members, their work (those who might need to change their work schedule since the run is now on a Saturday) and also traffic in KL on a working Saturday.

Unless of course, we suddenly get Oct 10th declared as a National Holiday.

Plus, Standard Chartered KL Marathon is not a government organised event but it has to conform to whims of others who wants to see grandeur on the so-called National Sports Day.

Sad day indeed.

Huh.

Anyways, for those who wants to get refund for Standard Chartered KL Marathon, do it fast before July 28th. Click at KL-Marathon page for further info.

  1. yeah it's disappointing especially for folks who have made plans for it. It happened in SG too but it was for a good purpose. the 2XU compression run was postponed due to the funeral of the late Lee Kuan Yew in March to Aug.

    1. There were history of other races being postponed and most time, it's a valid reason.
      Natural disasters, election, mourning.

KBS is playing bully this time.

  4. hmmm, that would be such an inconvenience to those who has made plans for the event on the initial date..

on the other hand, those who could not make it on the initial date would probably be happy with the postponement??

    1. Haven't seen anyone happy about the change.

Remember, most had blocked the initial date months ago and made necessary plans to run on 4.10.2015

  6. Bugger politics, it will serve them well if more than half cancel their participation because of this!

Why don't they just organize their own 1Malaysia Marathon or something... :/

    1. Exactly!

But no. They want to squat on a popular event so that they have less work and ALL the glamour.
