Lazy Mommy Weekend Cooking
Sometimes Mommy can be rather lazy to toil for long in the kitchen (and luckily Daddy didn't want Mommy to spend too much time there either) and decide to serve something quick and simple for her family.
Fried eggs, baked beans and fries or toast on the side. My favourite breakfast but a gassy one at that. :p
My lifeline when I want to make something really really quick for lunch or dinner. Pasta and sauce in a bottle. I love these shape vegeroni types as opposed to strand types.
When Raimie was small, I used to give him spiral shaped pasta with tomato sauce for his meals and because he was small and eat pretty messily, we used to give his lunch at the front porch (we used to live in a single storey house). My next door neighbour would show concern over me giving spicy food to my toddler. For some Malay, we equate red sauce with our own spicy red sambal. Hence, red = spicy; spicy = red.
BTW, my lovely son cannot even handle anything spicy. We joked that he has a Japanese tastebud.

My pasta dish, with lots and lots of mozarella on top. Yumm yumm.
Another easy meal Mommy can prepare is ochazuke. Just cook some rice and sprinkle over a packet of instant ochazuke and pour water. For me, I like to have this dish with some eggs(fried, omelette or scramble) and kimchi.
Or a fried rice with sambal sardin on the side (and a dollop of kimchi for mom and dad).
Easy meals, yet my family loves them.
Happy New Year, everyone!
yummy dish! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteMom's cooking is the best!! :D
ReplyDelete@wenn,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you too!
@ECL,
but sometimes, this mom is a bit lazy. :D
Gassy or not, I love the fried eggs, beans and toast idea. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteyummy hmmm
ReplyDeletehave a good start of the year!
@Poetic Shutterbug,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! :)
@Me,
So far so good. How about you?
:) My bf also can't take spicy food. Terlebih "mat saleh" kot.. LOL! Plus he have gastric so when he eat spicy food it aggravates the gastritis. In turn, he prefers Western food and even knows how to bake and stuff. So, kitchen stuff I let him handle coz I'm also not a fan of cooking.. :P
ReplyDelete@Angel,
ReplyDeleteYour buggsy and Zaini are the same. Zaini is better at cooking than me. :D
When we were dating, he aways cooks but after we got married, he kinda gotten lazier than me! LOL Lucky you lah... finding a man who knows his way in the kitchen. :)
I have gastritis too and have been warned by my doc to avoid spicy food. But... cannot live long without anything spicy. I'll start craving for them after a week of vacation overseas. :D
Easy meals can taste great, afterall they are home-cooked, right? Great that your hubs is supportive of you not cooking all the time.
ReplyDeleteJust a thought, is Raimie made in Japan? haha..
Happy Sunday, Lina.
Easy meals work for me too as I don't spend much time in the kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteEvan started to like spicy food now. He just can't avoid it I guess, because there's always sambal on our table that tempts him, lol.
@HappySurfer,
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm pretty lucky Zaini sometimes sees no point of me slaving at the kitchen esp since he sometimes needs to watch what he eats to maintain his weight. :D
No, Raimie was conceived a month after our trip to Japan. LOL

@Evan's Mom,
ReplyDeleteGood for Evan! :)
I guess for us, Raimie can't handle spicy food because of our eclectic choice of meals at home. :D
i think most of us prefer simple meals like this.. living in today's world who has the time to prepare a big spread :)
ReplyDeleteHappy new year! Simple but nice as what I saw. Hehe. Sometimes simple meal is better than abalone or shark fin soup.
ReplyDeletesimple but nice & most importantly it's easy for u to prepare too! I personally love baked beans with lotsa potatoes! Happy New Year 2010!
ReplyDelete@my,
ReplyDeleteI have friends who do indeed prepare a feast for their family even though they work full time. I really salute them!
@Superman,
ReplyDeleteThat's true. One can get tired of too much of a good thing. :)
@Dora,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you too! :)
Hi Lina! It's not always easy to prepare meals most esp when you are busy already working. Those might be quick dishes but at least healthier than the usual junkies outside.
ReplyDelete@Ayie,
ReplyDeleteYeah, and lucky hubby understands. But sometimes I wish I have time (and energy, not to mention initiative) to provide better food for my family.
