The Girl With Enamel Eyes, Coppelia

A bit of cultured post today. Don't play play ah. Ini makcik can like something highbrow like ballet performances as much as she likes running, tau!

Classic!

Comic!

Romantic!

I like romantic. The boys probably will like the comic part. So, what's not to like? Furthermore, a full cast of 48 which includes dancers and performers from USA, Australia, Germany, Romania and our very own Malaysian! Woweee!

And this ballet performance piqued my interest after seeing photos of Tristupe's daughter ballet rehearsal & performance over at FB and some that he tweeted. Dedicated bunheads. *smile* Great timing knowing about this show! ^^

The story of Coppelia revolves around Franz and Swanhilda who are two promised lovers and Coppelia which (who?) is the mannequin creation of Dr. Coppelius’s mystical workshop.
She sits on the balcony everyday and Franz becomes enchanted by her beauty, much to Swanhilda’s dismay. Cannot blame Swanhilda lah, right?

A cacophony of mischief takes place in the mystical workshop when Swanhilda and her friends sneak into the workshop, Franz climbs through the window and Dr Coppelius returns. Surprises unfold and true love is united.

Interesting right? Sounds fun too! True love will prevail!
It's going to be showcased next week, on Saturday and Sunday.

Wish I can go. Must do something cultured and not be a philistine, you know.

  5. Now you've got me all nostalgic. I saw Coppelia a few times in Cape Town, but here in Tokyo ballet is just too expensive. :(

Who's the Malaysian dancer? Anything on YouTube about him/her?

PS: I often joke that there are only two jobs on this planet that I could never, ever do: kindergarten teacher (oh, help, no!) and ballerina. What? These flat barbarian paws in ballet shoes?! (@_@)

    1. I am ashamed to say, I haven't been to any, anywhere. ^^!

The Malaysians dancers are from Aswara Dance Company and they are Sufi Asyraf, Kishoye Kumar and Imran Syafiq.

Ashamed to say, I don't know anything about them. *slink away in shame*

ASWARA is national academy of arts and ASWARA Dance Company is a professional dance company that comprises graduates of the Faculty of Dance ASWARA. ^^

    2. Oh, but ... why don't you go to this performance? It's all very fanciful and romantic. :)

Ta for that information. Let me try to find them on YouTube. (Or, as The Hero says, U-tsu-be.)

    3. Is U-tsu-be part of the word that Mr Takahashi is so against at, that he sued NHK? :P

I admit. Once, I stared blankly at a shop assistant who asked for the HAN-GAR. It only occurred to me a few second later, she was asking for the hanger! ;)
