An Epic 10K At Mizuno Wave Run

About a few months ago, while having dinner with Dr. Rafidah Abdullah, I mentioned to her about Jamusyahida (read about her journey to being fit and healthy and losing more than 47kg here) and the doctor offered to pace Jamu if she wants to try doing a 10K run. No more 5K fun runs, she said. Let's do a 10K.

Dr. Rafidah is the Consultant Physician/Nephrologist & Head of Department, Dept of Medicine at Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (HOSHAS) and if you follow Medtweetmy Twitter account, she is actively involved in educating members of public on health issues on social media. Apart from medical issues, she also shares her experiences and love of running and being active.

I was so excited that the busy doctor offered to do it that I immediately set out to find a race that fits her very busy schedule; after getting Jamu to agree to do it too, of course.
Thanks to Mizuno Wave Run 2019, we managed to secure the bibs and support Jamu in doing her maiden 10K run.
At the Start Line with some of our friends. The fella wearing red tee won 10th place. Congrats!

For a change, this post is not about me running in the race but of how a selfless offer from Dr. Rafidah Abdullah managed to spur a new runner to be brave enough to embark on her first ever 10K competitive run.

Dr. Rafidah stayed with Jamu throughout the course (it was quite overdistanced and they actually ran 10.70km that Sunday morning).

Here, they had reached the mid-way point and did 5K.
With about a mile to go.

The Mizuno Wave Run route was a surprise route as it was completely different from the route published on the run's registration page. Runners were not made aware of the change and I don't believe I heard the emcee even mentioning about the route change.

Fortunately, the route in Putrajaya was pretty straight-forward so I don't think anyone could've gotten lost.

A video as we were approaching the Finish Line. Just ignore the background voice. Hahaha

Congrats Jamu!
Earning her first 10K medal and doing it together with her idol is indeed a priceless experience, right?

For me, I was happy to help in a very small way to achieve this dream.
Jamu and her proud & very supportive husband. Although he didn't run, he patiently waited for Jamu and accompanied her during her training runs.

I hope that this can be an encouragement to other ladies who are thinking or want to try running or embark on a new fitness journey but hesitating in doing so.

Dr. Rafidah will be running a half marathon at Unicef Borneo Marathon 2019 on 28 April 2019 and a full marathon at SCKLM 2019 on 29 September 2019. (I've lost count how many FM the doctor had done).
