Appreciation Lunch By Wai Ching, Malaysia's Top Tower Runner
Soh Wai Ching (Wai Ching) is a Malaysian athlete and currently ranked World No. 5 and Asia No. 1 in Towerrunning Sport.
Tower running is a sport which involves running up tall man-made structures. Usually these races take place on the internal staircases of skyscrapers, but the term can cover any foot race which involves a course that ascends a man-made structure. (source: Wikipedia)
It’s only been 2 years since Wai Ching became serious in Towerrunning Sport with the KL Tower International Towerthon Challenge (KLTITC 2017) in April 2017. With a month of training, he finished the race and clinched “Best Malaysian” title and 2nd Overall in the race.
With the “Best Malaysian” title that he won at KLTITC 2017, it kick-started his journey to compete with other World Class Towerrunners.
Last year, Wai Ching was ranked World No. 24 and became Southeast Asia No. 1 in the ranking. Now, he is World No. 5 and Asia No. 1 at the same time.
He is also known as the First Southeast Asian to qualify in Towerrunning World Championship and also crowned the Fastest Southeast Asian Tower Runner title in the Towerrunning World Championship 2018 in Taipei 101, Taiwan. Other than that, he is also the only Asian qualified to the Elite Field of 4th Edition of La Verticale Eiffel De La Tour 2018 and achieved overall No. 9 in the field!
His goal is to be ranked World No. 3 by the end of this year and with a clear goal in his mind: “To become the World No. 1 Tower Runner”
Wai Ching's appreciation lunch was held at ChimiChurri@JayaOne as a way for him to thank his sponsors, teammates, family and friends for supporting him on his quest to be the best towerrunner in the world.
The appreciation lunch also coincided with him winning the Turkish Airlines KL Tower International Challenge 2019 and bagging the Men Champion title and also Best Malaysian Men category just a few hours earlier.
Congrats Wai Ching!
Of which, he was very thankful for the staunch support accorded by his parents.
He also was thankful for the people who helped and assist him during training including those who trained together with him.
As he said, it would be hard for him to do his training all alone, day in day out.
