Enjoying Ayam Geprek At Kampung Station
"Ayam Geprek? What's that?", asked my colleague when I told her that I was going to try Ayam Geprek.
According to Wikipedia (just to be safe):
"Ayam geprek is an Indonesian crispy battered fried chicken crushed and mixed with hot and spicy sambal. Currently ayam geprek is commonly found in Indonesia and neighbouring countries, however its origin was from Yogyakarta in Java.
Geprek is Javanese term for "crushed" or "smashed", thus ayam geprek means "crushed chicken". It is quite similar to traditional East Javanese ayam penyet, as both are fried chicken smashed and mixed together with hot and spicy sambal chili paste.
The difference is ayam penyet is a traditional Javanese ayam goreng half-cooked in bumbu kuning (yellow spice paste) and then deep fried in hot palm oil. Ayam geprek however, is more akin to Western-style (American) fried chicken, which is crispy fried chicken coated with batter, or known in Indonesia as ayam goreng tepung (battered fried chicken)."
Now, I baru tau also. But good to know lah.
We went to Kampung Station, located at KL Traders Square to enjoy an Ayam Geprek meal on Thursday night.
Kampung Station, ya. Not Kampung People. Heh.
Anyhoo...
We were lucky that the very friendly owner was there at the outlet and generously shared tips on how to make a delicious and crispy Ayam Geprek with us!
Our Ayam Geprek set, at RM7.90.
Dipped in the sambal.
Must eat with sambal lah, baru syiok.
The price is indeed affordable at this outlet.
For those staying nearby the area, and love to try a different kind of fried chicken than what we used to eat; why not head to Kampung Station at KL Traders Square?
Another specialty at the restaurant and I was told that it cannot be found elsewhere, is their Nasi Lemak Bamboo. Looks good, rigth?
Nasi Lemak Bamboo is priced at RM9.90.
The outlet also has plenty of other choices in their menu, so fret not if you want to eat something else. (But do try the Ayam Geprek first, if you're at the outlet!)
Their Set and Drinks Menu.
A-la carte menu.
Kampung Station serves:
Asian Authentic Cuisine
Nasi Lemak Bamboo
Ayam Geprek
Nasi Berlauk Kampung
Tomyam Kelapa Muda
Cendol Kampung
