Reducing Cost
I am not our esteemed PM who can somehow stretch a budget of RM500 for a year's worth of groceries (you know he mentioned that a research was done that a household can survive with RM41.60 per month).
My household earns more than RM3,000 than the ones our esteemed PM is talking about but I am still finding ways to cut cost. Though any savings would probably just go towards my running gears like the ASICS shoes I bought. *cough cough* Talk about getting my priorities straight. HAHAHA
Anyway, I rarely buy bananas at retail price now. I eat them daily, more so on weekends before and after a long run and I always try to get these "reduce to clear" ones. As you can see, the bananas are still good.
By the way, do eat bananas with dark patches on them. There is nothing wrong with them, and according to research, a full ripe banana with dark patches on yellow skin produces a substance called TNF (tumor necrosis factor) which has the ability to combat abnormal cells. The riper the bananas are, the better its anti-cancer properties are.
I get to buy bananas I want (without waiting for them to ripe at home) and at a good bargain too! WIN WIN! ^^
The three tubs of G Series thing is actually powder form Gatorade, Ah Hua. ^^ It's expiring in a month's or a couple of month's time so to me, they are still good.
It's good that there are retailers that clear away their expiring items before it is expired and not dump expired items on unsuspecting customers.
That said, we received some items in the Chinese New Year hampers in February that were already expired! Not a month or two! But almost 6 months! Terrible! :(
With the ever rising high prices these days, we really have to tighten our belts and look out for good deals to stretch our dollars.
ReplyDeleteYup, cost of living is getting higher and higher, we have no choice but find good deals to get value for our money.
DeleteIt's so funny how he can believe a household can survive with RM41.60 per month.
ReplyDeleteIt's too ridiculous.
Who did they base their research on? Orang yang makan nasik garam ke?
Kan?
DeleteNak makan nasi, kicap & telur pun mau lebih dari Rm40 sebulan! o.O
Research zaman P Ramlee kot ni! kekeke
they shouldn't wrap almost expired items in hampers..that's bad.
ReplyDeleteThose we got weren't almost expired. They have expired, few months already! Such unscrupulous merchants! :(
DeleteImpossible!!!
ReplyDeletemy sentiments exactly
Deleteyes i always do the same..
ReplyDeleteespecially those Christmas cookies..
it goes on sale just after the christmas and it was 50~70% discount..
and those are imported cookies... good bargain..
Love those off-season stuff.
DeleteOtherwise, they can be too expensive to buy, right? :)
i always get those durian after 8pm at JJ.
ReplyDeleteit is 50% sales..
sometimes .. buy 1 free 2 also...
Haven't bought any of those Jusco durians yet.
DeleteI like buy tepi jalan better! Or get from my hometown ^^
Pisang! :D It remains the only fruit that's reasonably priced in Tokyo, and it's still a lot more expensive than in Malaysia!
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds me of Japanese prime ministers who don't know what one Cup Noodle costs, and still want to cause inflation in Japan ...
But Japanese local fruits are still cheaper to buy than for me to enjoy them in Malaysia. huhuhu
DeleteThe price of eating "perfect" fruits. :/
PMs... Japansese, Malaysians... SA presidents? They are kinda the same, aren't they.
SA and Malaysia at least have the excuse that they're banana republics. Or developing countries, if you want to be polite. (Which I'm sure is not the case.) [Grin.] Not sure what Japan's excuse is!
DeleteThat's so sad to get expired items in hampers :(
ReplyDeleteI love bananas!
It's UNACCEPTABLE! ;/
DeleteI only eat Pisang Berangan. I don't like Dole bananas or other imported ones while my sister loves them. She is weird. Something is wrong with my tongue I guess.
ReplyDeleteI don't like pisang emas. Too sweet. Too small also, must ngap a lot baru puas >_<
DeleteThe only item that I always buy at almost expiry dates is the potato chips from UK or US. Their taste and style is heavenly compared to Pringles or Mr Potato. When they slash price it could be 50-70% off!!
ReplyDeleteI just got home from Singapore today and my pocket was burnt with a hole. Suddenly I had thoughts of cutting my monthly expenses so that I could go on more trips...now you blog about it!! Something's wrong with our govt now for overspending as our currency has fallen so much lately.
ReplyDeleteSpent too much gambling until pocket got hole izit? :-D
DeleteLOL! how can a household survive at RM41.60 a month? I'm not sure I alone can survive more than 2 days with that amount!
ReplyDeletejust eat rice can kot. Water get from public tap/toilet & also find free electricity to cook it.
DeleteReally lah... That stmt is a joke :-S
Oh yeah eat the bananas with dark patches - heard it's good for health too!
ReplyDeleteOh so terrible! Got expired items in your CNY hamper?
ReplyDeleteterrible right?
DeleteWhat an unscrupulous merchant. :[
Quck, let`s change a new reasonable PM then... Mwhahhaha... He`s just a laughing stock I tell ya... So much for a pemimpin berjiwa nadi rakyat... Hahahaa...
ReplyDeletei luv bananas so much too... Buy from pasar borong shud be cheaper, even pasar tani... Heheee... 1st time saya tengok G Series in powder form... bancuh sendri sgt jimat kan... Kudos Sis!
He's after the popularity contest not the "berwibawa" contest. Plus, we've got a pretty darn unfriendly looking PM's wife too. :[
DeleteIngat hari tu nk bancuh that G series powder n bring Sabun Series run to share share, mana tau x dpt gi lak ari tu >_<
yalah, RM500 for a household to spend for one whole year?? he must be dreaming lah.. can only last for less than one day for the lavish tourism minister, since her breakfast already simply RM150..
ReplyDeleteHer breakfast free lah... No use her own money! ;p
Deletei really do not mind getting those "reduce to clear" items.. i mean they are still expiring in a couple of months, still good to eat.. and expiry dates means "best before", actually after that still good lah~~ :D
ReplyDeleteYalah... I do eat already expired stuff sometimes, but it expired while in my kitchen lah... instead of on the supermarket shelves.
Deletein fact i actually find those "buy 1 get 1 free" so attractive to me, i am okay to get and consume them before expiry.. but then being so auntie, sometimes it makes me spend me because just for the sake of getting things cheaper than they are~~ :D
ReplyDeleteI easily got tempted too...
DeleteSometimes buying stuff I don't really need but the bargain seems to good to pass. heh heh
oh the Gatorade powder!! that is interesting lah, how many cups can that make?? 8 quarts is how much?? and i see a small number "80" there means can make 80 cups??
ReplyDelete8 quarts is about 7.5ltr
Deletethat 80 thingy - 80 calories per serving :)
i saw Pokari Sweat powder the other day in Isetan, RM7.20 for 5 sachets.. consider cheap or not cheap like that??
ReplyDeletePocari Sweat from Japan is not cheap wor...
DeleteBut not too sure. Cheap la kot. ;)
Learn something from you today. Overripe bananas is good for health. Ok. I will bear this in mind.
ReplyDeleteI love bananas. It is my top favourite fruit. My mom said I am stupid as I chose bananas over durian when I was a kid. Since than, my family called me "Monkey".
