Press Release: SHAMROCK RUN KL BRINGS IRELAND AND MALAYSIA CLOSER

The Malaysian Irish Alumni Association will be organizing its MIAA Shamrock Run 2019 on Saturday 30 March 2019 at the Saidina Hamzah Stadium, Intenational Islamic University (UIA), Gombak, Kuala Lumpur from 7am.
This will be the Fifth Shamrock run since its inception in 2014. It is a non-competitive leisurely run to instill health awareness and promote bonding for families and friends. Shamrock is the national flower of Ireland and the run is held in March to co-incide with the National Day of the Republic of Ireland on March 17 every year.

It is also held to bring closer together the people to people relationship between Malaysia and the Republic of Ireland.

Each runner will be given an event T-shirt, running bib and a unique collectors’ finisher medal, with interesting design and motives. Prizes will be given to best dressed runners in Shamrock, Irish and Malaysian motives. Lucky draw prizes will also be up for grabs.

The Shamrock Run 2019 is organized by the Malaysian Irish Alumni Association with strong collaboration from the Embassy of Ireland in Malaysia and O’Briens Irish Sandwich Café as the main partner.

The Soft Launch was held to promote participation and is graced by the Ambassador of Ireland to Malaysia, His Excellency Eamon Hickey, Mr. Hafidz Kosai Mohd Zihim, the President of the Malaysian Irish Alumni Association (MIAA), Mr. Brian Pua, the Managing Director of O’Briens Irish Sandwich and Café, Malaysia and Mr. Redza Samsudin, the Race Director for Shamrock Run 2019.

Also in attendance are members from the running fraternity, eager to give support and participate in Shamrock Run 2019.
There are 2 categories of the run, the 10km Men & Women Open for those aged 18 and above; and 5km Family Fun Open Category, of which strollers and children are much welcomed. The route of the route will pass leafy and hilly surroundings of the UIA Gombak Campus.

Registration is online through:

Participation fee for each runner is RM60 for 10km and RM50 for 5km
(excluding online fee charges for registration before 28 February 2019)
Fees from 1 March 2019 is RM67 for 10km and RM57 for 5km
(excluding online fee charges)

      I once won a rice cooker at Shamrock Run in 2016.
