Necessary Evil

I have a spinning bike at home. Used to have a treadmill too but the motor broke down and it cost RM900 to replace just the damn motor. To buy a new one would cost a few thousand. Evil, these machines! Hahaha

Anyway, got this bike about a year and half ago, for the purpose of cross-training and another option if I can't run outside. I don't really like to cycle and sitting on one for a "mere" 40min is actually murder on the bum for me. Then try simulating a hill climb on that dratted spinning bike and ugh...

LOL As I said, it's my necessary evil. ;-)

I haven't been to a gym in ages now. I have my "evil" bike and an equally "evil" apartment's stairs to complement my running. Once in a blue moon, I'd spent time in the apartment's pool. No, am not exactly jumping in joy when I need to do them but I do anyway. (Just like when I did the 5 sets of 15 floor stairs the other day)

Used to be a gym rat, me; yonks ago. But at that time, I was more focused in getting a strong upper body and I did a lot of strength training (read : weights) and cardio was just a mean of warming up and burning calories.

Why the need for strength?
To bee able to do this with ease. Son didn't like to sit in stroller when he was a baby and toddler so either one of us would carry him around when he's tired. Try walking from 8am to 5pm and you can't blame a 9 year old for wanting a piggy-back ride. (Can't do this anymore now. He's too big for it!)

I used to wake up really early and go to the gym 5 times a week at 6.30am. No time? Well, I guess I was really lucky I could allocate 6.30am-8.00am for gym before heading to work. I know many don't even have that luxury. Having way too much free time always have its perks. ^^

Now, I'm still pretty lucky I guess cos there are still time for me to run albeit not as long as I'd love to. Ah well... 30min a day is still good. I probably could do more but then I'd be losing sleep pulak. Better than nothing. Better than just giving excuses.

  3. I am a cycling freak in the gym. I can sit and rot on the bike for 1-2 hours! Just program 500 calories and then play games on the attached tablets on the bike. The treadmills are tougher to run 1-2 hours, as I might faint pula.....hihihihi

  4. I remember I used to have a treadmill in my condo and the unit below could hear the floor vibrating at night. Our contractors built cheap & thin concrete floors! Bluek!

  7. eih, i used to hit the gym in the morning before work too!! from 7am-8:30am and then rush to work at 9am.. i think it's great to workout in the morning, i actually feel fresh for the whole day, and the best part is that, the gym is empty with just few regular members, so you don't have to queue for machines and see people sashaying seeking for attention!! but it does require a lot of determination to get up so early everyday lah.. that's why i used to do that, but sadly not now :p

  10. I like to cycle when I went to the gym last time. But it's just for a short while. Then I would be working on the other equipments. I love dumbbells. But not anymore. I missed the gym.

    1. Great!

Maybe you could go once you aren't too busy? ^^

I myself prefer the machines than free weights like dumbbells. I guess I am always not confident enough to know the correct form to do free weights without a trainer supervising.
