Kids Dash At SCKLM 2018
Apart from the main event of full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K at Standard Chartered KL Marathon on Sunday Apr 8th 2018, there was also two running categories for kids called Kids Dash. It's usually held on the same morning as the main event itself but this year saw the Kids Dash being held on Saturday instead of Sunday.
It is a great gesture as many parents would love to see their kids participate and also run in their own races afterwards.
Kids Dash as the name suggests is a fun event. The race is designed to encourage kids to participate in a running event and take up the sport while they are young.
There are two categories:
1KM Kids Dash for children between 6 - below 10 years old as of 8 April 2018
3KM Kids Dash for children between 10 - below 13 years old as of 8 April 2018
For me, I used to run in half marathons (back in 2012 and 2013) because I wanted to make sure I'd finish in time before my Son was flagged off for his run. And that meant, both Hubby and I couldn't run together if Son was running. Our Son had joined it twice, in 2012 and 2013 and back when the kids' event was free but without any finisher medals given.
The entries were capped at 250 participants for each category and both slots were sold out pretty quickly! And a total of 500 young runners lined up the start line on Saturday, Apr 7th 2018.
And pretty interesting to note that this year, the Kids Dash had timing chip so every participants can view and download their race results, just like the adults participants.
There were fierce competition between the top/fast runners both in 1K and 3K categories and for both boys and girls. And it was so awesome to witness such raw competitive spirit by these young runners.
And there were also those who ran and had fun. Or rather, their parents had way more fun! LOL
Some parents chose to wait for their kids and some chose to run with them.
It was great to see the whole family came down for the run and enjoyed themselves at the event.
Of course, getting the medal as a reward is great motivation too.
Every participant was celebrated and cheered for, regardless whether they are the champion or the final runner who crossed the finish line.
Much respect to every single one of them.
Keep going and see you again next year!

DeleteWow. Such good event to get kids to run and stay fit at young age. If ask my kids, they prefer stay at home and play games. Geez. I really need to get them out and stay active.
ReplyDeleteKids really should be exposed to such activities from young.
