Makan-Makan In Taiping
Makan post! Nothing too special lah... we are not that adventurous trying new food and quite lazy to wait long for food at those popular outlets.
Best among the best of Taiping food : Yvonne's scones. Yummy!
Had popiah bought at the nearby market for snacks. RM0.60 per pc. Spicy! o.O
For dinner on Saturday, we initally wanted to eat at Doli for its famous char koay teow but the shop was full and even the takeaway wait was long! o.O
So we decided to head to this Pusat Penjaja (Hawker centre) instead for our dinner.
Sotong kangkung? Rojak sotong? Yong tau foo? Or something hot?
Sotong kunyit (squid cooked with tumeric) for Raimie.
Drinks/desserts for us. ABC!
Char koay teow for Mommy and Daddy.
Plenty of runners were having dinner and carbo-loading there too!
Sunday's dinner. Prawn mee for Mommy and Daddy and chicken curry rice for Raimie. He had diarrhea after eating that! o.O
scones! N lots more food.. u making me hungry at midnight!
ReplyDeleteHahaha... ask Yvonne to send some of her scrumptious scones to you for supper. ;)
Deleteoh, I'm hungry right now. I didn't take lunch even though it's almost 6pm now in Hatfield. I love all those food in Taiping as it is my hometown!
ReplyDeleteNow can enjoy all the British delicacies! ^^
DeleteOoooo...I love scones!!! And I love hawker food too. Best lah...and no need to spend so much at those classier places where the food isn't that great. More expensive and still ceret!!! Tsk! Tsk! I would never step into that place ever again.
ReplyDeleteOut of all food that stated here, I think Yvonne's scones are the top in my list.
Deletehahaha .. me and my wife also love to eat scones.. very English..
DeleteMakan scones with jam & drink tea, while sitting at a balcony and pretend I'm in England. Marvelous darling!
Deletekakaka
the scones look so nice lah.. with jam and butter and clotted cream, and a cup of english tea.. so nice lah!!
DeleteI had never eaten any hawker food in Taiping and that was my father's birth place too! I always believe that when the food there is nice, the people are nice too! Logic kan? Poh Piah for 60cents is cheap la. I can eat 4 rolls at one go.
ReplyDeleteMalay popiah is cheaper. Chinese popiah is throat-cutting! Not RM0.60, it's RM1.80!! I think it's the same price as in KL~
DeleteHehehe ..
DeleteI could get klang popiah for RM1.50 ..
I really hear so much of Taiping popiah.
is it that really good?
Malay popiah cheap lah... mana ada put all those "things" in non-halal one. xD
Deletehahaha.. i have never even been to Taiping before lah~~
DeleteWhy Raimie tak boleh tahan the spicy curry chicken? He must do some training and eat hot sambal belacan everyday!
ReplyDeleteyah le ..
Deletewhy huh? you tak ade train him a lot izzit?
I also cannot eat too spicy.. my whole head will be basah...
He can tahahn one... a bit lah. Cannot too spicy.
DeleteI think it's the curry there lah. :(
I think the curry is not fresh le~
DeleteI've been to that shop once, find the food so-so and I would prefer Old Town XD
Yalah... so so only but at least price not that expensive lor...
DeleteI only been to Kapitan once. I have forgotten about the taste of the food there.
ReplyDeleteI never been to DOLI for CKT also. Heheheh! But I heard of it many many times.
DeleteLast time they were at Hawker Centre. I guess so popular already now open shop.
Deleteaiyoh, even the Taiping people never been to the DOLI CKT before, ini Mak Rempit so good, she knows all about this popular CKT.. but padan muka, too crowded and no chance to eat~~ :D
DeleteWoi! Apa Mat rempit! ;p
DeleteGot many people mention online must try Doli when go Taiping mah... so thought to just check out ...
My Taiping colleagues also never eat the Mee Banjir Udang at Kuala Sepetang. ;p
Taiping is my birth place, my hometown. My family and I always go to restaurants that operate by local people. Weird thing is, I always visit the restaurant chains whenever I go to KL.
ReplyDeleteSame here, we always go for "family-operated" restaurants and even ditched Secret Recipe cakes for local bakery shops on birthdays.
DeleteI agree...
Deletethose family oriented restaurant is nice and good..
Totally agree.
DeleteMuch nicer than going to franchised and over-commercialised food outlets.
My family and I like to go to restaurants that didn't charge us for service tax and govt tax. Thank goodness there are still many restaurants have no service tax and govt tax available in Taiping.
ReplyDeletethat is good..
Deletebut maybe they had factor in the bill..
I think they have to achieve a certain amount before they could charge those tax...
In Ipoh also a lot.. but we need to pay it in cash.. (like the Mun Cheong Seafood restaurant)
Only outlets that earn a certain $$$ in their sale charge govt tax. Some more cannot simply charge. Got lesen and sticker to show one!
DeleteTaiping Hawker Center is my favourite place. I had breakfast and dinner there almost every weekend when I was young. The stalls are closed during lunch.
ReplyDeleteNow I still have breakfast there on weekend, but not for dinner anymore. Reason, my hubb doesn't like crowded place and limited car park.
I like to go for Hawker Center.. but those hawker in KL is mainly operated by those foreigners.. and the quality is so bad and put lots of MSG to make the food tastier.. not good..
DeleteYalah... even those food court in malls - not Malaysian cook already. Bangla cooking Chinese food and the taste - weird! o.O
DeleteI can't recall having Doli CKT or no. But that place is so crowded in weekdays and weekend!
ReplyDeleteI think my hubb tapau-ed once for me, long long time ago and I don't remember its taste :s
If don't remember the taste, then must be not that awesome lah! xD
Deletemaybe only famous for non Taiping people.. because Taiping people got other better place to go for CKT, haha~~
DeleteYou didn't try the sotong kangkung? They put sotong and kangkung and kuah rojak with lots of grinded peanuts. Kak lekker!!
ReplyDeleteI banned this dish from my diet.
Delete1) Sotong - high in cholesterol.
2) Kangkung - angin.
Kakakaka!
But once a while do no harm :)
do you know that in KL is not famous of this dish..
DeleteIpoh also famous of this food..
Don't really care about the sotong.
DeleteWant to eat sotong, I masak sambal sotong... better. kekeke
sambal sotong and sotong kangkung different things mah, cannot compare like that..
DeleteStill got sotong what! kakaka
Deletehahaha, yalor very true!! i also find that the scones looks more delicious than the food you had lah~~ :D
ReplyDeletewah, doli CKT?? you have been doing research about this place or you have actually been there before??
ReplyDeleteZaini found many reviews about the ckt there. Of course, bila famous a lot of people go lor...
Deletebut the CKT you had in that hawker center looks not bad also lah.. at least both of you didn't "lao sai" like raimie~~ geez
ReplyDeletethat one ABC ke?? how come got so many things inside?? got ice cream, got fruits, got biscuits.. too complicated lah.. i still prefer those original ones, and i do not like the sarsi and rose syrup and all those colorful sugar water.. just give me brown sugar and santan enough..
ReplyDeleteThat one their normal ABC wor... cheap some more. Got ice cream. Got watermelon slice. Got apple. Overall... nice. ^^
DeleteTaiping in my opinion has one of the cheapest prices in this entire country!
ReplyDeleteI agree! :)
DeleteYvonne`s scones looked heaven sent scrumptious tantalizing one, totally... Young lady terer in baking n cooking some more, super awesome!! hehee...
ReplyDeleteI`ve tried Doli CKT twice b4, not that yummy but still ok, overrated i think so... hehee... it`s not even char kuewtiow basah like in Penang one, kak Lina... Penang`s better... =D Owh I missed Penang sooo much!!!
Kak Lina, have u trained on trail running lately? It`s gonna be 8km muddy trail running along UPM farm... Gosh, sooo freaking nervous! My 1st trail run ever... o.O
Ha! Bila nak belanja I makan kat Penang? Pity I tak pegi PBIM... kalau tak, leh join carbo-load sama-sama. ;)
DeleteI saw on FB you tried trail running at MARDI? How was it? Never done trail. Jln-jln kat trail banyak lah! wakaka Next Sunday, hantam saja! ;)
