Lazy Mommy's Dinner - Steamed Rice With... Stuff

Funny, with the two previous posts about me being lazy cooking dinner, I cooked or rather served, something Japanese -with furikake and ochazuke. I don't think what I put on the table for dinner those two times can actually qualify as cooking! LOL

So what did this lazy Mommy came up with, when being lazy this time?
My version of a Japanese "takenoko" (bamboo shoots) and "sake" (salmon) meshi. So, it's basically steamed rice with bamboo shoots and salmon fish (plus bits and pieces of other stuff thrown in like carrots and mushrooms for colour & flavour too). Cooking it is somewhat a no-brainer - just add the items I mentioned above along with some "shoyu" (soy sauce), sugar and salt for taste, mirin & sake (if you can take these) into the rice cooker together with rice.

It would be nicer if it's served with some thinly sliced fried eggs, but as you know - I'm lazy. So, I just served my fried eggs (ala telur dadar) on a separate plate for all to dig in. Of course, my meal wouldn't be complete without some kimchi for a bit of zing. ^^

Gosh, writing all these post about my lazy dinners - I sure need to buck up and start being less lazy in the kitchen! But in my own defense - I cook nice lunches! *^-^*

I don't know why, but I suddenly start to have a craving for gyudon (beef bowl). Should I make them today? It's another easy and fast thing to make. Delicious too. Oh wait! I've run out of shoyu! Not to mention no stock of beni shoga. I think I'll just settle for some tomyam soup instead. Or maybe just plain soup. ^^

  3. That looks yummy and interesting...It's beenmonths I havenot eaten rice at all... or any Asian food in particular... and my lunch, is Italian pasta. You have knowledge of Japanese food as natural as having eaten them like so often...that's so cool! I always find Japanese food interesting, yummy andmostly healthier.

I cannot go without rice! I should stop eating rice (or less of them), if I want to lose weight faster but I rather not! LOL

  17. @SK,
Throw everything in the pot but I also take account the balance of flavour of the stuff I put in. Otherwise, if my family doesn't want to eat it, how? XD

You can just eat the rice? So economical! My husband, needs his lauk regardless how many stuff I put in the rice. ^^

How to make preserved radish omelette?Just mix them up with the eggs?

  20. @Webbielady,
No, don't say that. I have zero knowledge of food around this region - Filipino, Vietnamese, Cambodian... to name a few.

I like Korean and Japanese food, so I made a point to learn to cook them, just like I learn to cook Western food. ^^

  22. @levian,
Hahaha does it look like a cheese? Interesting. ^^

I've eaten it before, and it was really nice (I do so love bamboo shoots too) so I decided to try and replicate the recipe, albeit the shortcut way. ;p
