The Phase And The Favourites
I like to stick to a certain author and to a certain genre when it comes to leisure reading. My simple mind can't take too much confusion if I read such a diverse selection! LOL
My all time favourite books and authors :
My books are as old as the one I bought in the 1990s and as recent as last week. There were quite a few that I had to regretfully gave away in late 1990s because I was moving and I only kept the only I absolutely can't leave without. *sad* I do still read them. I have a tendency to re-read ALL the books I love.
These got me through college years. I was so into this, I can't read any other fantasy books. :P
I bought them at a secondhand bookstore in Central Market. That's use to be the place I look for books. Cheap(er) books. First hand or second hand doesn't matter.
It's been a while since I've been there. Actually, come to think of it; now it's easier to find secondhand books... and can buy them online too. Like the Book Up website, selling used text books (they have fictions too!) at a bargain. Changing time, yeah. ^^

These got me through two weeks of bed rest way back in 2002. Good thing too that I was on bed rest because I really forgot to eat, drink or even go to the loo for these. Was quite sceptical about it at first, after all they're children's books but I really do enjoy them. DO. I still read them. Hah hah
The current phase are these type of books. Sporting figures auto-biographies.
Wish I could get my hands on "The Hanson Method" book. Used or new. The marathon training season (poyo sungguh bunyi nya kan?) should start in earnest in June for me to prepare for two autumn (ahem, another poyo statement) marathons.

I don't read high-brow, intellectual, classical, though-provoking literature. I read to escape. I read to go into a different world that I enjoy and these help me do that. :-)
Until the next phase and on to the next genre/author. ^^
Oh yeah, talking about that Book Up online secondhand book store up above, they got a new list of books available for you voracious readers to hoard :

Agatha Christie is one of my favourite author too.
ReplyDeleteA friend so lucky coz he found her last book. Hardcover some more from paylessbooks. But now paylessbooks no more already. Last time I used to chase after PLB sake
*sale
DeleteSome people are very particular about bools. Want new books only. But I don't mind new books or old books. As long as good books. It's enough for me...errrr...price must be right too la.
ReplyDeleteFor me, I even read tattered books if it's the only copy I can get hold of. ;-)
DeleteLast time there was only one or two second hand books store in kl..and the price of these books were still very expensive. School days where got money buy many books. School library punya ate mostly limited....
ReplyDeleteIt's good that more second hand book store hv sprung up now
Agree.
DeleteWhen I was in primary school I used to save all my duit belanja to buy Enid Blyton books. That time oso not cheap wor...
wow.. neat and tidy books arranged in the shelf!! once i thought this must NOT be Mak Glam lah, muahahaha!! purposely re-arranged them for the sake of this post ke?? :p
ReplyDeleteHoi!
DeleteLOL
now we all know Mak Glam used to love Agatha Chritie, Robert Jordan and now she loves all the running books!! aiyoh, she was already reading those books in the 90s when she was studying!! no wonder she has got such a great command of English vocabulary that makes me need to look up in dictionary every time i read her blog :D
ReplyDeleteAwww malu I you praise me like that. hehehe
DeleteShe operates like a Running Dictionary!
Deleteshe is the running encyclopedia of English language!!!
DeleteI don't even know how to spell encyclopedia without a spell checker! LOL
Deletei don't think i am a reading person.. i read when i was in primary school because the teachers always said reading is a good hobby and expected us all the read, and i remember there was then this "bacathon" thing that we need to read and submit report, i read because of these reasons.. and not until lately, i bought books because i need to spend those BB1M vouchers, haha!! errr, bought and stuffed up the rack, but yet to read any.. how pathetic!! :D
ReplyDeleteDoes it surprise you that I won the reading projects that we're supposed to do when on school holidays when I was in school?
DeletePrizes : more books. :P
eih, i also won that.. can't remember what prize though, but i remember i didn't bother to read, just copy the synopsis at the back of the book into the form and submit!!! muahahaha, the teacher was impressed and put me as champion~~ :p
DeleteEeeeee
DeleteMeaning the teacher also tarak baca la. lol
now that i prefer to read non-fictions (hate most romance and chic-lit, hahaha!!), probably some factual things or history tend to keep me interested.. and fictions, yeah, like Mak Glam said, tend to stick to a certain number of authors (that we used to read their books) - Paulo Coelho and Mitch Albom for my example.. :)
ReplyDeleteGawddd... I don't read much romance ort chic-lit novel anymore now.
DeleteWell, used to like them when I was young... and naive... and full of romantic impression. Love them Mills & Boons books last time too. Muahaha
now no need to read to get the romance lah, itu pakcik kura-kura already giving you an abundance~~
DeleteYeah, right.... HAHAHA
DeleteYou have quite a lot of books! No wonder your English is so well-written ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree that her written English ada stylo of Mak Glams - original. Even I could not tiru her powderful vocabs.
DeleteItu sikit la dei.
DeleteHave you all seen Meow punya personal book warehouse? More impressive. She's not a show-off like me only. Haha
Meow's books are arranged at home like a warehouse. I call it Small Bad Wolf books. How to snap photos?? She pening where to start.
DeleteShe can susun her books in the middle of an empty warehouse, sit on the pile and we take aerial shots of her and her books. Good idea? hehehe
DeleteWah! You beat me to this! I was staring at all the piles of new books purchased from 2 BBWS spree but go no time to read them. I wanted to blog about the type of books Anay & Letchumy read about ~ world apart topics!
ReplyDeleteI think I have passed the stage to read novels and fictions. Old people like me start reading religious books and non fictions! Muahahaha... I salute you that you could re-read the good books again as I could not even find time to touch the new ones.
I don't like buying books that I feel I won't read immediately so at BBWS I don't go on a spree. Usually just buy for son.
DeleteI like to read, but i take quite sometimes to read a book...
ReplyDeleteAs long as you enjoy it :-)
DeleteI love to read, especially motivation book!!! =]
ReplyDeleteGood for you :-)
DeleteI bought lots of story books for my children. Now that they are older, I had given them away. As for myself, I prefer motivational ones.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to donate books when we don't need them anymore :)
DeleteThose were the days that I hooked so much on books like Beverly Hills 90210, Nancy Drew, Famous Five (Malay Version), John Grisham (Pelican Brief & Juror), Sydney Sheldon series... That time, no smartphones and all sorts yet. Even limited time on the internet too... Now I bought books and don't have ample time to read them all yet... The book worm in me shriveled already, I guessed...
ReplyDeleteI've looked up on the link just now... Wah so cheap la these 2nd hand books... Tempted to buy some interested books soon... But no running books available there...
Tidak ada masa untuk membaca adalah alasan sebenarnya.
DeleteSama macam kalau tak training. heh heh
Yup2... must make sure some time provided for reading books... Kena berazam untuk teruskan budaya membaca nih lepas nih... =D
DeleteYeah... so many books.
ReplyDeleteAgatha Christie! YES PLEASE! :)
ReplyDeletePS: The only books I don't recognize are the runner's books ...
Should I endeavour to put hiking books in the pile too? hehehe
DeleteOoh.. i read Agatha Christie too.. though I prefer Hercule Poirot to Miss Marple series.
ReplyDeleteHave not tried Robert Jordan's though..
I kinda have a soft hear for Ms Marple. I think so does Ru too. Ne? ;-)
DeleteI love The Wheel of Time. Wanna borrow my set? :)
